Here is my 1985 B reg Volkswagen Jetta C which I bought hoping to restore back to immaculate condition. I'm 19 and due to having a new job which means I have to travel a lot I need a car which I can use daily so sadly I won't have the time to finish this and get it back in the road.
The car is a desirable early spec 'Typ19' car which means it has the quarter windows, the mirrors mounted on the door, the rear VW badge is on the left rather than in the centre and being a C spec it has a lovely interior with no door pockets, the centre ashtray in the dash rather than vents and the early spec centre console. Aswell as the 7 slat front grille and the 'C' indicator blanks.
The car has been owned by an elderly couple who used it as a disability car but sadly they stopped driving and the car was left in storage untouched. The cars engine doesn't start but it has been turned over by hand at regular intervals. With a battery and some fresh petrol I see no reason it shouldn't start.
A friend of mines mk2 was sat for 8 years before he bought it, he chucked a fresh battery and some petrol in and it started right up!
I had began sourcing parts to fix the damage to the chassis leg and in preparation for the engine to run. I have a battery tray repair panel sourced from VWHeritage and a brand new radiator from GSF.
In the time I have owned the car I have also compounded and machine polished the bodywork which has made the paint look like new again and made it really shine. Aswell as hoovering and cleaning the interior so that is now looking more presentable. The top of the dashboard has began to split due to UV damage but I do have another mint condition dashboard with the chrome strip in perfection condition to go with the car.
I also have:-
A spare passengers side mirror to replace the current one which has smashed glass
Full set of replacement window seals, these were sourced from another TYP19 but they are in a lot better condition than the ones currently in place.
Full set of replacement quarter windows with seals, these are the hardest parts to find for any TYP19 so although the ones on the car don't need replacing they are handy to have.
2 rear door handles to replace the two damaged ones on the car.
A passengers side window mechanism, when I bought the car there was a pair of windows mechs in the boot as the drivers side needed replacing. I have changed the drivers side and the passengers is just a spare that will go with the car.
I also have some spare interior pieces that will go along with the car.
It's a lovely car and I would love to keep it and finish it off myself but due to having a new job that requires me to travel I don't have the time to keep it and really need a daily car to get too and from.
Once all the parts I have are fitted it doesn't require much work to get it ready for an MOT. As far as I am aware all it needs are:
- A battery
- A drivers side rear light (easily found on ebay)
- Passenger side outer CV boot (GSF)
- And 2 new tyres (Can get a pair of part worns with 5mm of tread for £25 from ebay)
- A good service and some new brake fluid
Headlights are in the boot of the car. Due to the council wanting the car shifted I had to move it quickly so the essential parts where put back on so it was safe to move.
£400
Which I think is a far price considering the age of the car, all the early spec goodies and all of the spares going with it.
Car is located in the NG24 area
