Last night I wanted to weld (glue/bodge) some wheels onto my "new" 40 year old compressor with my stick welder, as the Mig has died for some reason, when I found my auto dimming helmet had a load of water in it ? No idea how, as it lives on a shelf in the corner of the garage, and I will have to check the roof to see if there is a tile broken or something similar. ANYWAY..... It seems to have stopped working, the three setting buttons do not make any difference. So my question is, do I go out and buy a new auto dimmer helmet, or try to fix this one? As I suspect it has some electrical board that got screwed by the water. The one I have is a "Scorpion" brand. No idea if it is a generic brand etc. So added to this question..... What is a decent helmet, what spec should one go for?

Before splashing out the pennies, try to rescue the soggy one, step one, dry it out, open any covers then put it somewhere warm for a day or two, step two, replace or recharge the batteries. This has rescued a couple of phones that have gone through the washing machine, ps if the water was dirty, flush with clean before drying. Ttfn Glenn

Do you really want to take the risk of suffering from arc eye or worse for the sake of £30 for a new mask?

you wont get arc eye, even un-dimmed there's enough protection, however you wont see enough to weld properly!

Have you actually tried welding for a day without a fully dimmed eyeshield?

Eh? When they're turned up they are fully darkened, then you turn them on and they light up?
