Ive got a mgb myself and would love a bit more ooomph has anyone fitted or any idea whats involved in fitting the rover 2.0 turbo lump as in what box starter and other bits would be needed. I also like the vauxhall red top engine is another cracker. I've looked into the Rover 2.0 M/T16 engine as a possible swap in N/A form but the turbo will be much the same The engine 'should' fit to the MGB gearbox, but I don't know how that would deal with the output from the turbo'd engine so might have to go LT77 The block mountings are the same as O and B series so apparently should fit with Sherpa engine mounts (if you can find any), sherpa spigot bearing is also used, I think a rwd O series or original B series flywheel was recommended (can't remember exactly) The main issue is with the ancillaries at the front of the engine and keeping them from fouling inner wings, chassis rails etc. The water pump on the T series is built into the aircon pump and will foul the chassis rail, M series water pump looks to solve this, O series would fit on front of engine but apparently fouls the cambelt The oil pump will hit the front crossmember unless you do some mods to the pump or the crossmember There will probably also be issues with space for the turbo, and the intake piping will probably go through the original heater Might need to mod the bonnet too as its taller So theres still a fair bit of work involved, probably why I still have a B series in mine at the moment handy link: www.mginfo.co.uk/upgrades4mgs/Engines/t_series_in_an_mgb.html

i was actually thinking of dropping in a bike engine, busa or a big v-twin? have many people attempted this? is the effort really worth it? would it be a ****** due to the bike engine being a chain output? :/

Bike engines are great for a small light weights like kit cars but the mg is a heavy old lump. Be interesting to see it done and how.

Since the MGB weighs just over a tonne, I don't think a bike engine would be much good really. If you want revvy though, rotary conversions have been done...

At 16mpg i'de stick in a well set up 3.9 v8+5 speed and possibly LPG (ok the tank will be smallish in the wheelwell), should give you improved mpg and smiles per gallon also.
How many miles a year are you doing?

With a well setup 'B and valvesaving fluid (I do not know how long it would suffice for). He could even put a tank in the rear wheel well (installing it would require the fuel tank to be dropped). The cylinder head would be my worry (but they seem to be about for relatively reasonable money for an unleaded conversion.

Here's a K-Series 1.8VVC in a Spitfire chassis. Would think getting it into an MGB engine bay would be slightly easier not requiring any alteration to bulkhead. End of day it's all down to how much you can do yourself & cost, no matter which way you go it will be more than you think to get it right.

What about a m42/m44 lump out of a e36 318is? 140bhp, cheap to buy and the m42 can take a super charger on the std ecu.

I never gave them a second look before but the M44 is a nice little engine. Here's one link but I think the exhaust might be tight to the steering in a rhd car.

That BMW powered was is amazing, but he's mounting low down so chopping up the Front X-member is must. I looked at the 318 and various others before going with the MX, the good thing about the BM lump is all the wiring is on-board but the issue I noticed was the bellhousing side made it close to requiring some chop to the tunnel (I didn't was to IVA/SVA or whatever).

Thankfully I'm in Ireland so that IVA stuff doesn't apply (yet anyway) I'm going the MX5 route with an MGB as well - but I'm planning on using the complete MX5 running gear as well so that's a bit different - pretty much a chassis change really. However I have a few B's so I might try going the BMW route with one of them. I have a K series lined up for one also.
