MODEL HISTORY
The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was a sports derivative and rally homologation special of the fifth generation Ford Escort. It was designed to qualify as a Group A car for the World Rally Championship. It was available as a road car from 1992-96 in limited numbers from Ford’s Specialist Vehicle Engineering, (SVE), team. It combines the hand-assembled engine expertise of Cosworth and the coach-building crafts of Karmann. In order to accommodate the larger Cosworth engine and transmission Ford developed the car around the chassis and mechanicals of its predecessor, the Sierra Cosworth. EXTERIOR
The spectacular exterior of this Escort RS Cosworth is nothing short of brilliant. Finished in metallic Auralis Blus, (code 55), the paintwork boasts a deep striking shine from the smooth polished exterior. A uniform finish is assured with no dings and only a few tiny markings stop this from being a perfect refreshed example. The lower front splitter has minor distortion and has been secured. All exterior trim is in excellent order including the lights, badges and rubbers. The glass still has factory security stickers and the engine bay is very clean. One for the true enthusiast to enjoy and preserve.
INTERIOR
The interior of this Escort Cosworth is wonderfully original and preserved. The Recaro seats are finished in Raven Leather (code LW) and are immaculately clean and free from wear. The seat bases and bolsters remain tight and even the delicate piping to the seats has avoided the wear commonly suffered in other examples. Only slight aging veins are present. The cut-pile carpets are perfect along with all the other interior trim items. The comprehensive and sophisticated instrumentation has beautiful dials with black detail on a white background and all electrical functions operate with warning lights off. The optional and very rare air conditioning blows out cold air. A Laserline 993 security device was fitted in 1998 along with a more recent Trackstar in 2007 with accompanying certificates. The standard Ford radio/cassette, Model 2007 RDS sound system remains as Ford intended and provides excellent sound through the original eight speakers. The boot area is pristine and houses the factory fitted space-saver spare wheel and correct jack. An impeccable RS interior representative of a dealership handover in January 1996.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The original RS Cosworth powerplant warrants little introduction. Fitted with the factory standard Generation Two Ford EEC IV electronic engine management system and Garrett AiResearch T25 turbocharger and intercooler, the motorsport pedigree of this car is unmistakable. With an impressive output of 217HP allowing the car accelerate rapidly through 0-60 in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 140mph, this truly is a recipe to set the heart racing. A turbo waste gate actuator has been installed, The permanent Ferguson four wheel drive system with 34/66% front/rear power split mated to a MT 75 5-speed gearbox is a delight.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine Ford RS 8 X 16” five-spoke alloy wheels are shod in quality branded 225/45 ZR16 tyres with masses of tread remaining. Tiny markings to three alloys are just visible. Electrically-controlled ABS anti-lock system with two microprocessors and ventilated front and rear discs offer immense stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Truly incredible. Built at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new on the 13th April 1996 by Ford Main Dealer Stormont Ford of Tunbridge Wells this example has an absolute unblemished service record. Only showing four former keepers, (two of which are the same owner with photocopy V5 history to substantiate), this car was supplied to the first two keepers by Ford Main Dealers for £27,730 and £24,995 consecutively. The third and fourth same owner, Mr Pounder, owned the car for 14 years keeping it impeccably maintained with all invoices and MOT’s to verify the mileage. The latest custodian and collector has now acquired a sub 20,000 mile example making this available to a lucky new owner. A full service including the essential timing belt and tensioner was carried out on the 12th November 2013 at 53,927 miles.
All handbooks, owners supplements and a fully stamped service book are present along with a full complement of keys including the red master key.
