I have 3 Fiats that I am finally motivated to get on the road. I guess I have been accumulating parts on eBay for a little bit too long now. The first car is a 1967 Fiat Abarth OTR 1000 - a pretty rare car with less than 20 ever made. I have a 903 engine that has been stroked to 1 liter with a PBS 8 port head and dual Webers. It is not running a lot of compression, but I hope it will be making between 80 and 90HP which should make it quite a bit of fun on the road. I have been working on each car a couple hours per week and hopefully will make enough progress to post every couple of weeks or so. The next 2 are Fiat 600's, one is running but needs some detaily to really get it road worthy and the second was bought as a shell that rats and oppossums had been living in and mostly just rolls now. Here is a video of it misbehaving This little thing goes like stink and the sound of the exhaust is half the fun. I was planning on putting a front radiator on the car because it ran so hot but have been talked out of it by a friend. Besides most of my overheating issues are most likely due to improper sized pulleys.

Nice collection! I really like the OTR, is it an original OTR?
Love the mint coloured 600! I like the ratty look of it. the red one is pretty old, it still has suicide doors
keep us updated.

Thanks! Yes the OTR is on original car. The paint on the green 600 is original and I have been trying to preserve the ratty look of the cars exterior but just get the mechanicals tip top.

Hi Mike, a real OTR, nice. do you have the original engine? I like it!
What type of waterpump is on the green 600? and which electric fan do you use. the fan fits very nice on the radiator. and what engine is in the 600? a 903?
my 850 also needs to be painted some day, but I also like a more ratty look. As long as the mechanics a working tiptop and it is reliable.

Very cool cars! I've had two 850s within the last 5 years, and loved them both (Sport a Coupe & Spider). I'm slowly restoring a 124 BC coupe in the garage. I think I've seen your running 600 a few years back at a show in Oregon (the US State on the northern boarder of California). I was told that that's a Fiat x19 fan set-up in the bay, and an 850 motor running a dual 36 mm WeberDCD carb. Since the 850 turns anti-clock, the cam from the Autobianchi a112 is used to make it run with the 600 trans. The A112 oil pump is also used.
I love the video you posted, great sound. I have a couple of your car, including one of it loaded into a full size pick-up truck.
Please post your progress as often as you can, great cars!

Cool, thanks for adding the videos, yes I bought the car on eBay from a cool Fiat guy in Oakland. I knew he had taken it to the Fiat get together in Oregon. I think it was the second time he had squeezed it into the back of his pickup truck. He rescued the car from a farm in Oregon and got it road worthy again, with a modified a 903 engine with reverse rotation gears and an A112 water pump, I thought the fan was from a 124 but he mounted up nice to the shroud and it moves a lot of air. The rear springs were also cut and the front spring was reversed to lower the car. He also put a set of disc brakes from an 850 on the front. Some 70's offroad buckets were put in the car to give it a more racer feel. I think the engine ate a main bearing that weekend and I bought the car not running with another short block. The engine that I built up used the stock crank pulley instead of the small pulley that he had used, I think this makes the A112 pump cavitate and not move water properly, thus the engine overheats after a few minutes. It has a PBS 280 cam with the big Weber carb and Abarth exhaust - it is very fast for such a little thing and actually pushes you back in the seat a little in first gear.

I have been doing the shell game of moving stuff around to make room to be able to work on the car instead of working on the car. I found somebody to weld some tabs on the spindles so I can lower the front end on the green 600 this week. I was checking the internals on 600D transmission that I bought and found an Abarth 9/41 ring and pinion in it so that is pretty exciting since they run several hundred dollars. Lastly I thought I would share a photo of some of the OTR engine parts; block, camshaft and oil pan - about $3000.00 in that photo - Abarth parts are crazy expensive, but pretty to look at, I love that forged crankshaft.

Them's some fancy motor parts! I know that feeling of having discovered Abarth parts. I found a perfect set of Abarth cams in a Lancia twin cam head that I bought locally for 20 USD. It's a great feeling, congrats to you. Keep posting pics & progress. I'm so jealous of your cars!

You were lucky with the ring and pinion! nice! I agree Abarth parts are crazy expensive, almost no fun in that. Except it looks so nice..haha
Are you willing to share info on welding the extensions to the spindles. I also am planning to do this on my 850. I found some info from Paul van der heyden about the length and angle to weld them. But I couldn't find a lot more info.
What kind of exhaust are you going to run on the OTR?

I wish I would have had more money to stock up on Abarth parts back in the early 2000's when they merely seemed expensive, but dirt cheap in retrospect. I have been buying up original Abarth parts here and there for the red 600 for about 7 years and have spent more than I want to admit. Luckily most of the rare parts for the OTR were included with the car, the previous owner had been accumulating parts for several years, after getting the OTR from Greg Schmidt in San Diego. You can't find those parts anymore even if you could afford them.
I will post photos and note some dimmensions for the lowered spindles, I bought a couple 850 spindle assemblies with the disc brakes cheap last November and will be modifying them for the green 600, the OTR has a set that have been modified by PBS many years ago so they will make a great template for the new ones. I found a local off-road truck fabricator to make and weld the tabs on for me, he knew exactly what I was talking about when we spoke on the phone this past weekend. I am excited to get the front end lowered, even with the reverse eye springs the front end of the car sits way too high ruining the stance of the car.
As for the exhaust on the OTR, I have two original exhaust systems for the radiale head, but the will not fit on the stock 850 exhaust pattern - I was suprised to find out that they are different. I do have a long tube header that I bought from Scoderia Topolina several years ago, I have a U bend to get flared and will see if I can get a Supertrapp megaphone from a motorcycle exhaust to mount up neatly. It looks cool mocked up but not sure how it will look on the car, waiting to see.

I had a 600 and 850 set made when PBS was around but don't know how to take measurements for a fabricator to make on their own. Looking to see what you come up with. I'd loan mine out, but the last time I loaned parts out for a jig to be made I never got them back.

I was able to get a friend to make up a set of the lowered spindles, he copied the PBS ones I had perfectly. I'm pretty excited to get them on the car and see what kind of stance I wind up with. He used to weld up titanium hydraulic lines all day for McDonald Douglas aircraft, he had a friend that made up the tabs with a water jet cutter and then welded them on. They came out perfect!
