OK it's for my "modern" but answer will be applicable to most cars. I'd say 75% of my driving is on lanes and last night I realised I could do with brighter headlights. I don't want to fit higher wattage bulbs and not possible to have spots so am considering Xenon bulbs. Not HID conversion or blue tinted bulbs to give a Xenon effect Any opinions on them ? Worth the cost (car has separate bulbs for main and dip so looks as if it'll cost just under £20 for a full set - 2 x H1 & 2 x H7) ? Thanks. Paul H

I've got some Bosch bulbs in the MG and have found them to be as bright as I need, can't remember which upgrade over standard they are but I think they claim to be the 90% brighter ones or something. Not sure if they actually use Xenon gas or not.

Paul H If you are paying £20 for four bulbs then don't bother. buy decent known brands like Osram or Bosch from a trusted source and not Ebay as there are a lot of fakes on the market. And don't exceed the legal wattage output., you need visibility and not glare.

I've had the same Osram Silverstar (Nightbreaker didn't exist at the time) bulbs in the Herald since 2008. They're as bright as the 100w driving lamps I had fitted at the time. Fitted some Osram Nightbreaks to the Acclaim and they were brilliant, but didn't seem to last. A mate has a Pug 206 and his kept blowing as well. I've now got Halfords all-weather bulbs in the Acclaim and they're brilliant. Takes a little while to get used to the yellow light as blue cars become green... but they're so gentle on your eyes. Excellent in the snow and fog as well. They've been in there for about a year now.

I'm pretty sure wiring is OK - it's a Smart Fortwo coupe - the later 450 type with "peanut" headlights. It's a whole front body off job to change a bulb Paul h

philips xenons are good lamps. consistently good and last well. The set in my polo have been in the car around 4 years. They do a selection of types too, so you can choose from lamps which are aimed more towards style and lamps which designed to perform as well as they possibly can.
