I can't cope! I miss my Jeep! Looking for an XJ Cherokee in working order with MOT. 4.0 preferred, ideally I'd like to find another pre-facelift Limited or Limited S.E. without airbags (Momo wheel) but I appreciate they're a vanishing breed. Definitely not interested in diesel or 2.5 petrol unless it's practically free. Prefer no LPG, no lift kit, just stock. 4.0 Sport is cool, though. As long as it drives reasonably well, condition is not particularly important. I'd prefer it not to have rust holes everywhere, but my last one had gaffer tape over rust on the roof... PM or reply here with details, I don't mind travelling for the right deal and car, but would prefer local as I'm currently driving the 300C as my daily Either looking to buy outright, would consider a deal with cash my way on my SLK (it'd have to be a very amazing Jeep to be worth a straight swap).

Not the best time of year to be shopping for an XJ, TBH. This is due to the "snow surcharge" that is added to by sellers on Ebay, etc as people suddenly want a 4x4 for winter.
Not entirely sure why you specifically want a '93 model ('94 and up have the drivers side airbag), as later models are better but i'll keep a look out. Expect to pay up to £1500 for a good (really good) facelift model (97->) and £750-£1000 for a really good pre-facelift (<-96). Any more than that and they're having a laugh (at your expense)
Bear in mind that early 4.0L WJ/WG's are available for £1250 and up and offer considerably more refinement.

I'm aware of that and the values, I'm quite a fan of Jeeps and AMC stuff, but I want one now after moving house - before I didn't have the space to keep a banger, and didn't have the driveway/rural location to 'justify' it (I am fully capable of driving my 300C in snow, I just don't wanna!).
I've considered ZJ/WJ but I like the shape and size of the stocky little XJ. I prefer the crude interior on the '93, the chunky leather wheel, the essential "American" nastiness of the whole interior package. Bridge of Weir leather and round corners be damned. Also against the WJs, I prefer V8s and the ones in the budget haven't been looked after - I'm not into replacing transfer boxes for fun & profit.
£1000 for a good (and I do mean good, clean tidy sills, nothing beyond A/C broken) prefacelift with long MOT & tax and I'm happy, 60th/Orvis, let's see what comes up.
I was considering a Wrangler and spending a lot more, replacing the SLK, but I'm not familiar with them at all - other than wanting the 4.0, I don't know how they drive, what economy I might get (for reference, 28mpg+ on long runs in my '98 which was new, 24mpg in my '94 which had 10x the mileage and knackered suspension - I tended to use 2WD unless I had to go into 4x4). Don't think any Wranglers have Selec-Trac?

No, Wranglers don't have select-trac, or any form of full time 4wd. They, including the JK's, are part time only (one of my peeves, BTW). The only way you'll (potentially) see 28+ mpg in a Wrangler is if you go for a diesel JK. The 4.0L's will get maybe 20, on a good day, downhill, bone stock. My '91 gets about 16mpg (which why it's NOT my daily driver!). But then it's modified.
Saying you want a pre-facelift, and then saying you want an Orvis/60th is... confusing. They are both facelift models, the 60th anniversary was in 2001. £1000 for a pre-facelift will definitely get buyers flocking. Check the usual sources (the bay, autotrader, etc) and i'll keep an eye out on the Jeep forums.

I know it's confusing but my preferences go... XJ Cherokee --- '93 Limited SE --- other pre-facelift with airbag wheel --- any XJ Cherokee --- sod it, I'll try a Grand Cherokee - depending on what's available at the time and for what money. I've just hopefully secured a '93 Limited SE with a year's MOT and a few bits done for £500. Crossing fingers that it's not stolen from under my nose, or suffering major engine or gearbox problems, I'm confident the seller's honest and the Jeep is exactly what I'd hope for at that cost. And it's got the Momo wheel I like so much. It's the small things The economy isn't an issue for me, it's just breaking the perception that the Wrangler manual is a smaller, lighter looking vehicle when really I suspect it's heavier.

(Oh, and until I've actually handed over cash and got this Jeep in my hands, I am still interested in leads - but I've told the seller I'll have it and am making plans to collect it ).

Mine could be for sale in a couple of weeks (I'm just replacing the front balljoints and UJs for the MOT), it's a '98 on an S plate with decent MT tyres and no saggy back end!
Let me know if the deal falls through on the one you're looking at!
Cheers, Martin

Cheers, Martin Well, I gotta go see this one, but feel free to fire me pics, details, price in PM - I'm happy with what's described on the Limited SE I'm probably getting, but I could get there and find faults that mean I don't want to take it on after all.

Nice, but too many bits of value I don't want (No need for a winch, don't want a lift kit, really don't care about LPG and actively don't want kits which reduce the size of petrol tank or worse, put a cylinder in the boot). I got the one I went to see, and I remain on the hunt for a nice one on the backburner - mine's got 157,000 on the clock and still pulls like, well, a Cherokee, it's got the Momo wheel and tired black Limited SE leather, and a lot of water inside as it leaks through a rusty roof (drying it out, then gaffer tape to the rescue), and it's had a lot of work done on brakes, suspension and steering. It's totally reasonable for a £500 Jeep, not an amazing low-mileage mint bargain or anything, but perfect for getting into with muddy boots, driving sideways in snow and not caring about. I will be looking for a black Limited SE driver's seat with fewer holes (or passenger if the bits can be swapped), and a kick panel if I find a cheap one. Belted back up the M1 at motorway speeds with no death wobble or untoward wandering, too.

Yep, that's what I was thinking if I had to go with a facelift one. But if I'm pushing to get a smart one, it'll be in summer - mine's got MOT until November next year and tax until end of March, so it'll see me through the stuff I want to avoid driving the 300C in, shrug off winter shopping car park hell etc.

Still looking, my current one just decided to get a collapsed top hose. I suspect it'll be the rad cap, but you know, chuck offers at me.
