Ah yes 10 months to get the computer system sorted and in todays news Iain Duncan Smith supports his Universal Credit scheme thats so far had so many computer cliches they can't say when all claimants will be on the system, the Government no matter which party and IT projects just don't mix. Still think there's more to come, a 7 million saving is nothing in the grand scheme Don't talk to me about the governments computer systems!! I have lost my mobility because of it which I filled numerous forms since January with no luck!.Now my mother is fitting for her benefits because of being finished from work on health grounds, which all the paperwork and forms seem to have got lost in their system!

Lets all rely solely on a computer system, then when someone pulls the plug out to do the hoovering, nobody will have proof of tax and we can all be fined for every penny we have so they can bail out another bank that will go bust in a year anyway. Mongs. Funniest comment of the thread. Getting rid of the tax disc is stupid for all the reasons already outlined in this thread. I don't want it put on fuel either because then there will be no longer any point to owning a tax exempt car. The government has already admitted that there are more people using VED exempt vehicles everyday than they predicted. In Europe there are restrictions on "historic" vehicle use which the UK doesn't have. Putting VED onto fuel will therefore mean all road users will pay VED. I can see their logic. As you say "there will be no longer any point to owning a tax exempt car" and that is the very reason why the current historic VED system is flawed. The reason for owning a historic car shouldn't be the fact it is VED exempt no more than owning a pre 1960 car ownership shouldn't be because it's also MOT exempt. If you want to use a "historic" VED group vehicle every day why shouldn't you pay VED ? If we go down the route of "there will be no longer any point to owning a tax exempt car" then there is the chance of government going the EU way of restricting usage etc so don't think that is a valid argument to fight putting of VED onto fuel. Personally I'd be happy with VED on fuel. Have 8 vehicles (5 cars and 3 bikes of which just 2 are VED exempt) so taxing them all at once would cost a small fortune. Paul H

I was born disabled and have been that way for 56 years. I've had two strokes which affect both my legs and right arm. Accidents have damage both knees and I have to wear braces to avoid falling over. I have left foot drop and have to wear another brace to stop it dragging when walking. There their is brain injury as well as spine damage which can't be repaired. Heart is also duff and classed as "stable heart failure" which leaves me breathless. I can't walk more than a few steps. I don't qualify for Mobility Paul H

Christ, it was only a quick comment.
I understand why it would be somewhat logical to add it to fuel, my dolomite which is a mere 1.8 is £230 a year to tax yet its only 4 years younger than my 1973 P6, which is a 2.2 and tax free.
But i'd still rather they didnt. I'm nearly priced out of driving as it is, and i don't want fuel going past 1.50 a litre.

composimmonite sounds like you saw a nurse rather than a proper doctor when they assessed you! It wasn't Atoz that French company was it? I would sugest that you appeal against their decision. Even if you did get a doctor some are told to change their reports to meet targets!
I had my medical the day after the panorama and the other tv programmes were broadcast and I made dam sure they knew I had seen them!
Diabetics, nerve loss/damage in legs (should be using callipers but they cause more damage!) Brain tumour been and gone caused more damage now on HRT among other things at 37!!

Excellent. We can all run around with replica old discs in the windscreen (like those FredTransit was scanning and posting). Good point that! I am yo yo ing between a copy of the first ever tax disc in the window or the very last for ever.

Fred, what about having three smaller tax discs above each other, with the first, the last, and in the middle having one for the age of the car.
