Hi, iam about to re wire my chevy pickup.
Does anyone know of what type of connectors I should use - I want to do a good job and ensure that any connections stay as they are intended......Surely there must be a better system than the cheap crimp types?? Thanks in advance

Not sure what you mean by "cheap crimp" types, but using the correct tool is essential regardless whichever crimp you use, makes it so much easier, quicker and neater. If you aren't fussy about originality, then pre-insulated crimps (as used in power stations!) with a glue type heat shrink sleeve can't be beaten. For joining single wires, you can get glue heat shrink butt connectors, the wire will break before the connector and the glue also stops moisture. If you want to use any of the late model type connectors, (Packard etc.) you'll need the tool, which can be expensive! Other then above, I'm sure some one in the States will sell original style connectors for a Chevy? Have a look here HilltopGood luck

Nowt wrong with the twisty twisty together and bit of black tape method........
Only joking. You should see the pro job the guy did installing the tow bar electrics on my mums car.Must have been 30 scotch locks only half crimped together.

Ok cheers guys, I guess when I said cheap crimp types - maybe that should have read ( the idiot using them with the incorrect tool). I like the idea of heat shrink crimp connectors, to keep the moisture out. Thanks for the links compo.....I will have a look at those. Yes the twisty twisty together is whats there at the moment!!

You can get cheap crimp terminals where the metal is thin and the plastic shroud is brittle, they normally come in selection boxes with a ratchet tool that doesn't work properly so I know what you meant when you said cheap crimps. I would suggest VWP that Paul H has already linked to or AES www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk
