Chaps
I have sold my current daily - The guy is collecting Sunday..
I have in my garage my next car but is untaxed.
So on Monday morning I will switch insurance but need to get Tax straight away so I can use the new car..
As I wont have the new insurance cert for several days can I still go to the post office to get Tax
IE can the post office check electronically that the car is insured? It was years ago since I got a tax disc this way and I remember always needing a copy of the log book / MOT / and insurance cert..
Cheers!

Just get them to email you the insurance docs, print them off and take to the post office. Done it lots of times and never had any problem.

Here's the snag.. I don't have a printer! Save to a memory stick and then visit mate who has printer ? My insurer, NFU, doesn't charge for up to 14 days overlap in cover when changing vehicles. Have you therefore approached your current insurer and asked if they will add the new vehicle to the policy from today and send out cover note, by post, immediately so you get it by Friday. At the same time tell them to remove the old vehicle from cover on Sunday. Paul h

I paid a visit to my local library - 5mins and 10p later I had my insurance cert and taxed my car with no issues.

get insurance, tax online, no paperwork and no visit to the post office required...! Insurance can take several days to get on the MIB database so it can't be taxed until the DB is updated and if the car is on SORN you can not drive it until you have the received the tax disc as it can take up to five days for DVLA to update their system for it to show on PNC checks. No RFL displayed = one impounded car.
