Ok,
I'm booked up. Got my flight for the 5th May to Boston, MA. Staying till 13th May. Any recommendations for stuff that has to be done/seen (car related and not) and things to avoid at all costs?
Gonna spend couple days in Boston then rent a car for road trip, thinking maybe going to new york.
Oh nearly forgot, going to be with girl friend so wouldn't mind some romantic suggestions too ;D

boston is a nice city, good choice. It is one of the better us cities, and you won't suffer a major culture shock (as you would if you flyed in straight to mineapolis).
I suggest you visit the harvard university campus and the area around that is quite nice for a romantic stroll.
However, I would strongly suggest you hire a car and get around a bit. hire a car from Budgets (cheapest in my experience - 20 bucks a day) and drive down the east coast to new york. the ride will take you half a day max (its about 150 miles). spend the weekend in the big apple and drive back up. US car rentals usually have unlimited miles and gas is dirt cheap.

Cool thanks.
Internal flight bit too expensive me thinks ;D defo gonna do the drive to New York. Thinking bout going back up to Maine afterwards, cos the gf is studying there and she says the coast around there is real nice. Any idea how far Niagara falls are from NY/ Boston? I can get a convertible Mustang for 35 quid a day!!

PS. when you hire a car, make sure you get the insurance..
some years ago I was driving from chicago to cleveland, and a frikkin dog jumped on the highway like a salmon and I had a major accident trying to avoid it. car was written off and I was bloody lucky because when I hired the car I asked not to have the insurance, but the guy had put it on anyway!
was later told by the cops that animals on the highway are not that uncommon.
also, DO NOT speed. if they catch you they whopp your ass big time...

There is a fantastic 'world food' restaurant called 'The Blue Room' on the Boston / Cambridge border that is worth a visit. Fenway Park- the home of the Red Sox is a good afternoon out - depending on the dates grab a nose-bleed seat and watch the game, drink beer and eat hot dogs. New England Aquarium is worth a visit too. But really, get on a flight to LA

My Uncle lives in NY state, a few years ago when i visited he took me to a small local Nascar track and it was an amazing experience the sounds the sights, the smells, the bits of tyre that get stuck in your hair, the V8's! ;D The locals were very friendly and explained what was going on! They put on a good show will stock cars and a demolition derby figure of 8

When you hire a car in Boston, just head straight for the highway out of the city, towards New York if you choose. DO NOT try to drive around in the city of Boston itself, it's a nightmare - I've done it, seemed worse than driving in Manhattan to me! That aside, driving in the US is ace, and Providence Rhode Island is a very nice stopover between Boston and New York When I was there I took pics of alsorts of weird and wonderful cars and trucks I spotted, plus the bumper stickers you see are awesome!

Get on an internal flight to Los Angeles! What on earth for? That place is hell on earth. Been three times and each time could not wait to leave. Further South or further North in Ca is nice, but LA is the biggest sh!t hole on the plannet. And remember, I've been to Birmingham!

SF is nice. We stayed in a wicked holet, its one of the few buildings to survive the 1906 earthquake. Its also supposed to be haunted. Gave Em the creeps but I loved it. www.queenanne.com/Proper old school American hotel.
