An impeccable and vibrant Ford Puma Millennium Edition with just two owners and full history.
MODEL HISTORY
Towards the end of 1993 a group of designers from Ford’s Small and Medium Vehicle Centre were invited to present ideas for an exciting new coupe based on the Fiesta supermini. The Puma was the first small coupe Ford had ever made. By adding stiffer suspension, wider front and rear tracks, a close ratio gearbox and a brand new Yamaha-derived 1.7 litre engine the team produced a car for the enthusiastic driver. The Puma Millennium was launched in 1999 and achieved immediate notoriety after gaining Millennium Product status from the Design Council. Only 1000 made, all in Zinc Yellow, with this example being number 0637. Currently 678 survive. (Source: How Many Left)
EQUIPMENT
Millennium high gloss black door mirrors, headlamp system with three projector lamps, tinted glass, remote tailgate release, Variable ratio power assisted steering, anti-lock brakes, traction control, driver and passenger airbag, pyrotechnic front seat belt tensioners, height adjustable driver’s seat, immobiliser, alarm, remote central locking, aluminium finish interior, leather sports steering wheel, ‘quick clear’ heated windscreen, heated electric door mirrors, air conditioning, digital clock, power windows.
EXTERIOR
Finished in the Millennium only Zinc Yellow, this bright car looks positively radiant. The paintwork boasts a hugely bright glossy shine and is a real head turner. There are a few tiny touched in stone chips on the leading edges of the bonnet and roof, visible only upon very close scrutiny. The original supplying dealer number plates remain with the car along with a discreet Hancock Ford boot lid sticker. The body colour bumpers are unmarked, and all trim sections and badges are perfect. The tinted glass and styled lighting units are original and remain in beautiful order. A rare car now, tremendous in its condition.
INTERIOR
The Puma Millennium came with exclusive Recaro seats wrapped in Alchemy Leather and offer amazing support. The unique Millennium carpet mats have preserved the deep black carpeting, and the seats and trims section are beautifully clean and wear free. Every Puma option is standard on the Millennium Edition and all electric devices function correctly, apart from the clock display being slightly deteriorated, but still easily readable. The air conditioning blows ice cold. Impeccable.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The Puma’s 1.7-litre Yamaha-derived unit was the first Ford to use variable camshaft timing, (VCT). The power delivery is incredibly flexible and energetic with 85 per cent of peak torque being available at just 1500rpm. The air induction system is tuned for a raspier sound and combined with a free revving engine this power plant is immensely rewarding. Ford maintained from new this engine is eager to please. The close-ratio sports gearbox is precise and perfectly weighted providing an intimate link with the driver.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Unique Millennium light alloy 15” nine-spoke chrome wheels are in remarkable condition. The four centre caps with the Millennium Products Logo are brand new and compliment the wheels handsomely. Quality tyres in size 195/50 R15 have excellent tread remaining. Servo assisted with vented front discs, anti-locking and Electronic Brake Force Distribution provide safe stopping power.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied by Ford Main Dealers Hancock Southern Ltd in Essex on the 29th September 2000, this incredible two owner car benefits from full service history. Even an unused Hancock Ford tax disc holder is present in the history file! The first registered keeper, a Miss Dawn Preece kept the car impeccably serviced at Ford until passing the vehicle on the second owner Miss Claire Watts in July 2004. Miss Watts upheld the strict Ford servicing throughout her fastidious ownership for all but the last three years, when this was then undertaken by a local specialist anually. A Ford service stamp on the 24th September 2010 at 54,399 miles documents a cambelt change. Every MOT document from new combined with the fully stamped service book will guarantee this vehicles low mileage of just 70,568.
The original service booklet, owner’s manual, radio guides and associated point of sale literature remains in the black Ford wallet, along with many invoices for service and maintenance work. A limited edition piece of Ford Heritage, a must have for the enthusiast.
MOT September 2014, Tax June 2014, HPI Clear.
