Ive recently found my dads old stash of R.F 60 log books, for cars and bikes from the 60's and 70's. The bike ones were from his biking days, and the car ones from his banger racing days (there are many). Once he'd bought and raced these cars back in the 70's they were not registered as scrap, they just 'dissapered' off the system.
There must be collectors out there that would want these but one thing has crossed my mind. Could someone claim to have found 'green MG Magnette' in a field some where with the log book in the glovebox, claim to have restored it to put it on the road, when in reality they have nicked an MG magnette and pinched the id off the logbook to get the car back on the road. If there is any chance of these getting into the wrong hands for this to happen, they are being shredded and going firmly in the bin.

It'de be worth running the numbers through the vehicle check system to see if any have survived, I'm sure there are genuine collectors out there of this type of memorabilia

Cheers. There is no chance of any of the cars surviving, they have all been bangered. If i looked hard enough through the old photos i have id prpbably find the evedence in there somewhere. There is a chacne that some of the bikes got passed on and survived, but I know that afew of them got written off (he was a 'keen' rider. ) Id love too pass them on to a collector, just so they don't get wasted by throwing them in the bin, but if there is any chance of them being used for the wrong reasons, ill get the shredder out. At the moment it looks like the shredder is going to have a substantial meal.

You could always send an email to the VMCC re the bike logbooks, they might either have them for their library or be able to match them to the current keepers

Why is it a case of finding a collector or shredding? Why not keep them yourself?

If there's anything wierd and wonderful car wise you could maybe pass them on to an owners club, The MMA for example has club records of the Aussie Chryslers

Ive got enough stuff here to keep in memory of dad that i don't need or want to keep these, id rather they go to someone who wants them as a collector (being a collector of stuff myself, I understand what they may mean to the right person). And besides, my dad was a boardeline hoarder, ive had so much stuff to search through that I just want to keep the things that I want to keep, not keep them just because ive got them. Nice idea about the VMCC, i'll send them a message and see what happens. If i were to put them on a well known auction site, they would easily find their collector, no problems there. Its just the concern i have of the id being used by the wrong people, if it is at all possable.
