fantastic, big treat to have all the updates in a big glob.
car has a great stance watching it from the camera car on your drive about. used to see quite a few of these at castle combe track days back in the noughties
look suspiciously like mk2 astra roll bar links which made me chuckle. so i take it has inboard dampers at the front? rocker type system ?

Theres still a bit more to do at the front, when I doing the bits you've seen I noticed that the ball join boots were split and I didn't want to leave it undrivable so I left them undisturbed. So once I get my self into gear I have the following to do: Upper & lower ball joint covers Front srpings - new remanufactured Rear drive shaft CV boot clips Doors need adjusting I love the stance of the car and can't wait to do some trackdays in it, I've done loads of motorbike track days, but I've never done one in a car. They do look rather like Mk2 astra drop links and that could be because they're from a Daewoo Nexia The front suspension is indeed inboard shocks on a rocker system. The upper & lower wishbones are actually standard Chevette and Reliant welded the rocker arm onto the top wishbone. Ball joints are chevette, hubs are modified chevette, calipers are Metro (none vented) and the discs are custom reliant.

Got some time to do a couple of hours work on the car over the weekend. The car had been standing and not started for a few months, but I was very happy when the car started on the first turn of the key. A British car with Nissan reliability This weekend I've mainly been getting the doors working correctly. Previously you couldn’t easily operate the door handles from the outside and once you were in you were stuck as the inside ones didn’t work at all. I stripped the mechanisms out of the pair of spare doors I’ve got and fitted them to the doors on the car and bingo working door handles inside & out. Not a big change or a major update, but every little helps and being able to get in and out of the car easily makes getting an MOT one step closer.

Looks great pauluspaolo, I've read every page of your build and found it a very interesting read. Hope your enjoying it now its on the road. I've done a little bit more on mine today, but I've no pictures as I was too busy swearing at it . I've changed the O/S top & bottom ball joint covers and put one of my new springs on. Took it for a blast round the block and I've got to say it's great fun

You were thinking of using it for track days IIRC? Are you going to do some mods for it or keep it standardise? And have you thought about sprinting? The RSSOC championship starts in April/May

The RSSOC championship starts in April/May I'm just going to look at minor mods depending on how it goes on track. I've done some minor stuff, but thats more about the drivability rather than performance. Dump valve, Harder springs & spax shocks and 15" Wheels, but I need better tyres as it was wheel spinning in 2nd gear out of corners today. Stuff to consider: Boost controller, boost gauge & intercooler, but I think I'll be fitting a wide band lamda and A/F guage before I look at winding the boost up.

15psi is absolute top you can go. 10psi without an intercooler or you'll put a hole in a piston. The standard tiny turbo won't go above 15psi and you'll need to sort fueling out. Our sprint prepared car is running 14.5psi with an intercooler and a nice cam and it produces 181.9BHP. You don't need any more than that without other mods. Fitting a lambda sensor may be pointless because you can't really mess with fueling much other than fit bigger injectors. Putting it on a rolling road may be more worthwhile. The wheel spin out of corners will be down to no LSD. The biggest drawback on them is they spin all the power away through the inside rear wheel. An LSD can be had for £100 Or you can fit stiffer rear suspension to help keep the car flatter. If you are going to do track days, you MUST upgrade the brakes. We lost all brakes through heat after 5 minutes of continuous laps. The disks are just too small and have no venting. The best/easiest upgrades are the Graham Walker vented conversion, which you just change the disks for vented ones and put spacers in the calipers, the PH Carlton conversion which uses Carlton disks, Rover (I think) calipers and Chevette uprights or the Wilwwod conversion which uses Chevette uprights and rover (I think) disks If you want to know anything, feel free to PM me

My wife bought me some hair clippers that didn't work too well so we took them back for a refund this weekend and she asked me what I'l like to spend the money on... well I needed a couple of top ball joints and she was even good enough to go to Reliant Parts World to collect them for me Top ball joint ready for fitting I also had new springs to fit: So with a bit of messing around with ratchet straps: After a bit of faffing around, I've now got the front end sorted: Now the car is back out on the driveway and I've taken all the wheel off so I can take them for 4 x Toyo T1Rs fitting in the morning

They'll transform it. Let us know what you think of the improvement. I'm hoping that now the suspension is sorted and some sticky tyres tommorow it'll transform it from the ditch seaking sidways monster it is at the moment with the 4 different brands of chinese tyres on it. TBH with the suspension sorted today was quite fun, if you imagine a car that handles really well, but has no grip what so ever, made for some really interesting moments on the lanes round here A comparison should be very easy to make tomorow. Gratuitous shot of my 2 speed babys together

I've just got back from Ears Motorsport in Macclesfield after having 4 new 195/50VR15 Toyo Proxes T1R. The guys there were great and I was in the fitting bay within minutes of getting there. I can fit all the wheels and tyres in my boot Getting ready to fit them, but I needed to make sure that I had the correct rotation for each tyre Once fitted I went for a quick blast around the block to make sure that everything was ok and it was obvious from the start that these new tyres had alot more grip than the chinese ditch finders that were on there originaly. General car shots with it's new tyres Proxes British made

Today was MOT day. I went to a party last night and got a little drunk, both me and the wife had to go separately so we'd left both cars there. Once I woke up this morning I had to go and collect my car so the wife could use it. When I finally got home I only had an hour to finish prepping the car for its MOT and I still had a list of 10 jobs I needed to complete. I rushed through the jobs list and got 9 out of the 10 sorted... it failed its MOT on the 10th item on the list, the head lamp alignment. Unfortunately it was so far out it couldn't be tweaked on the adjusters and has had to be booked in, but I'm not too bothered as it was the only thing and a relatively easy fix. I also got 2 advisories, first for a little play in one of the trailing arm bushes and secondly the steering wheel was loose. I've got 2 new trailing arms to fit sometime this year and I should really have tightened up the steering wheel before taking it for the MOT. I managed to get on some fast flowing back roads on the way to and from the MOT station and as my confidence in the car is now starting to grow I'm finding this thing is hellish good fun. The new tyres have transformed the car and I'm now able to throw it around without worrying about it letting go, but I'm going to have to work on my addiction too booting this little gem out of corners. The combination of turbo noise, dump valve and tyre grip is addictive, but I fear in the long run is going to cost me alot in tyres and fuel .... stuff it you only live once

Sorry I've been too busy driving to update. MOT retest was booked for 4th January. In preparation for the retest I only had one little job to do, adjust the headlight aim. Easier said than done, with every adjuster seized and some of the threads being made out of chocolate. After lots of swearing I managed to fudge together 2 working headlights with approximatly the correct angle and ended up back at the MOT station for the retest. Quick twiddle on the adjusters on the test machine and I'm now the proud owner of a fully tax & tested 1800Ti On Friday I decided to try taking the car to work. Set off at 6:30am and decided to take the back roads into Coventry, great fun was had there and back. On the way back I had to pick my daughter up from after school club and she even gave her seal of approval to the little red car, but on the country lanes back to our house one of the bodged headlamp adjusters gave up and the headlamp became dislodged. Saturday I rebuilt the headlight adjusters and made sure they were all secure before I went for a test drive... Lesson learned: always check you have fuel before taking a test drive ESPECIALLY if you’re recording it.

Since passing the MOT we've been having great fun with the little Scimitar. The Toyo Proxes T1R tyres have been absolutely brilliant. The dry grip they offer is amazing and when you do provoke them (the car is a lightweight turbo after all) they let go in a very progressive manner, these have made the car amazing fun with stella amounts of grip in the corners, but I can’t imagine them lasting too long. The last couple of months haven’t been without a few little issues, the main ones being: 1) Turbo cooling water pipe split, spraying water all over the engine bay every time the turbo spooled up. 2) Slight smell of petrol when cornering with over half a tank of fuel. 3) Cutting out when hitting a bump in the road or revving the engine past 3500rpm under load. This was a major issue as you couldn’t really use the car. Cooling pipesLast weekend driven by the cold weather and lack of antifreeze in the cooling system, myself and Jack scheduled some garage time to get the cooling pipe on the turbo fixed and some Antifreeze back in the engine. The plan was simple, we were going to put a new barbed banjo connector on the turbo and sleeve this onto the broken pipe with some R9 injection hose I had spare. This was easier said than done and took a few hours or swearing at the engine with one of us underneath the car while the other was above just to try and get the damn pipe back on the turbo. Once it was back on we went for a little blast to Euro Car Parts to pick up some antifreeze to refill the system. Returning from ECP Petrol SmellBreather pipes on the petrol tank were rotten and split, so we replaced them. Sounds easy, but as usual it meant we had to disassemble the rear of the car to get to the petrol tank. So at the same time we took the chance to change the top deck back to the red one that matches the car and fit the convertible hood. New breather pipes fitted. Cutting outWe think we've isolated the issue to the positive lead on the battery working loose. We've fitted it correctly and the issue seems to have gone away. Last night we went for another little blast, but this time with the roof down, great fun was had by all. Picture taken at dusk on Cannock Chase.
