So this is possibly a little modern, we're talking at least mid 90s and the several years thereon.
Looking at the Duratec V6 in transverse flavour, 2.5 in the Cougar, 2.1-3.0 in the X-type, 2.5-30 in the Mondeo, yeah that one.
Fwd gearbox for this is a bit big, same unit used in 90s Mondeo 2.0 4cyl Zetec and 2.5 6cyl, seems to be smaller units on other 2.0/1.8/1.6 Zetec.
The aim is to squeeze the unit into a very small space (think really small), so what I need to know is what gearbox will fit the V6 that isn't as big as the Mondeo unit?
Additionally, any knowledge on what flywheels (dual mass also welcomed), starter motor and clutches are likely to go with this will be greatly appreciated.
Bear in mind the completed vehicle will likely be around the 800kg mark.
Cheers..

The smaller zetecs had the IB5 and the v6 had the MTX75

Duratec V6 is the mazda unit and bolt pattern, also used in the Ford Mavericks, if they didn't have soo many sensors etc i'de be thinking what else I could fit one to as well as they're a lovely engine.

Yeah, sounds like that IB5 might be the one, I've seen one from an ST170 isn't as big as the MTX75, but with that I get a new problem.. Ratios - this thing is gonna have small wheels. I don't mind swapping final drives, its just a case of knowing what's out there and where to find it.
I'm confused about the origins of the engine. Its not the same as the one in the Probe or MX6 but seems to be a Mazda/Suzuki conception initially. Ford have since made it 3.5 and 3.7 litres in Lincons and Mustangs, along with countless other applications as their global V6 unit, which I find a stretch for such a compact block. Two glued together make the Aston Martin V12 which I find even more of a stretch for what is basically a Suzuki Vitara engine, that's all a bit irrelevant other than it being good to know there's a big parts pool for me to consider options, though I'm pretty set on the 2.5 bore/stroke atm.

The ST170 isn't technically a Duratec neither. Its a uprated Zetec unit which has the traditional Ford bellhousing pattern, so your ST170 Getrag box wont fit a V6 Duratec.

Well this has really steered me into direction, appreciated.
So I need to be looking at Mazda stuff, just avoiding those ones with Ford running gear..?

id be looking at mitsubishi fto's as I'm pretty sure the v6 from the mondeo is a mitsi unit. ive got a 2.5 v6 in the galant and i know the fto is only a 2.0 v6 and is a bit smaller and they share the same gearbox housing pattern. as all the fto boys end up robbing the vr4 engines and bolting them up to those boxes. pretty sure the gearboxs are same in the evo also. if that is of any help.

It's not a mitsi unit, it's a mazda/ford design.
