I have some minor surface rust under the car on the floor section which I want to sort out before it has a chance to get any worse the plan a knott wire metal brush to clean the metal back, then a cote of kurust, then a coat of primer followed by a coat of underseal,i will also be doing the same inside the car minus the underseal.
so is this the right way to do the job? cheers

I'de stick some colour over the primer as primer is porous, otherwise with a careful choice of underseal sounds fine to me.

I prefere some sort of treatment (you'll never get to ALL the rost pores with grinding) like kurust or phosphoric acid, to remove any rust. Then primer, paint, stone chip/under seal and again paint. And then wax everywhere and NO knot wheel!!! The knot wheel smears the rust pores, closes them and the kurust or PH acid has way less chance to fully penetrate/eat any rust. I prefere flap discs or strip discs at low RPM to clean of the surface. Give it as many layers as possible, to keep the metal cushy in cold winter

I have never had much luck with Kurust.. best of just making sure you get it all nice and clean with the wire brush and then if possible use an epoxy primer followed by either underseal and/or paint. If epoxy isn't an option then as above sounds good.

No luck with Kurust either. Rust came through the paint a couple of month later. Spray stone chip on for that factory dimpled look. Seam sealer is good on the underside!! Avoid Hammerite. It's just really thick paint that cracks off easily when dry.
