It was the first day of road legalness for the Polo in 4 months today So my dad took it out for a drive with me in the passenger seat and my sister in the rear. It appeared to be making a strange noise from the passenger side rear wheel to begin with and it didn't want to start/idle (both solved later ).
On the dual carriageway it managed 75mph and held 65mph for the majority of it (thats 3 up, impressive for a 1043!), and it pulled nicely seeming quite nippy! It did have a bit of a wobble from the passenger front at 60mph though, which felt like an unbalanced wheel.
The exhaust is still extremely low though, catching on anything sticking up out of the roads (even cats eyes while 4 up!) and scraping on any slightly bumpy tarmac.
When we got home my dad discovered that a cable tie holding the wheel arch cover on was probably causing the strange noise so I snipped that off, and had an underbonnet check. I found that the hot air hose to the air box had come off the exhaust manifold which was causing the starting/idling problems in the morning. I also changed the wheels around, putting the passenger side rear on the front and the spare on the rear.
Then we took it for another test drive. It felt like new!! All the strange noises and vibrations had gone and it felt tight and planted as our brand new Impreza. My dad admitted that it felt great and was actually extremely comfortable for a small car.
Bring on Wheels Day!
