Right, I've been on here since Feb 2012, but have only managed 90 odd posts due to me working stupid hours, and I'm only just about computer literate. Got a Mk1 Escort Estate that's a long term project, a Mk4 Escort Cab, and an Alfa 155 (no pics at mo, will try and rectify that soon), but this thread is about my latest old wreck/proud purchase (depending on whether you ask me or my missus!!) Ok, so as previously stated, I'm not exactly a genius with computers (think neanderthal man woken up from frozen sleep.....it's an age thing, that's my excuse anyway...), but I'm about to try and add some pictures. Everyone ready? Here goes....... Hopefully that's worked!!! Got it off a well known auction site a couple of weeks ago. Plans are a bit sketchy at the moment, got an RS2000 I4 engine and loom for it, some new panels, Recaro seats, but not sure after that. The biggest stumbling block at the moment is wheels.... Got some secondhand Spax adjustables for it, from the same auction site, but I don't want to go the normal route of S1 alloys and kit. Was thinking of small versions of Gartrac arches as a possibility, but the wheels are giving me a headache!!!! Comments and ideas welcome!!

I remember those in that colour when I was a kid in the 80's, haven't seen one for years that isn't beige or brown!

Looks gr9, I love the little blue 'cvh' sticker on the air box, make sure you get a new one made up for when the I4 engine goes in. Give the Gartrac arches a miss I'd say as they risk making it look $hit. I recommend getting the original wheels banded a little so you can retain those class centre caps, the wheels look great on it as-is. must be super rare those early steels now.

The arches are under consideration at the moment mate, and I love the sticker as well...... The problem with the wheels is that I'm planning RS Turbo brakes, and the 13's won't fit over them. Must admit it would look good tho........

Loving that. Your car, your way but maybe the arches would like nicer stock rather than Gatrac route - especially with that original colour (assuming you are not going for a colour change?) - I love that colour and recall loads of Escorts being around in that shade!. As to brake clearance how about Mk1 / Mk2 Mondeo 14 or 15 inch steels (possibly banded) painted silver and fitted with those rather cool original centre caps or even if you could find them the polished metal centre caps from the Escort Mk3 Ghia or how about the 14 inch XR3 steel wheels with white covers (pepperpot style that were fitted if the buyer did not opt for the Teledial alloys on the mk3 XR3). Whatever you do I cannot wait to see your updates!! Good luck and great save J

The minichamps 1:43 model I have also has the steels and not alloys.

Quick update: Been busy buying myself some early Xmas presents, NOS rear lights cos the originals are a bit naffed, new o/s wing(non genuine-have you seen the price of NOS ones??!!!), o/s indicator(broken), o/s door skin(blown at the bottom), 5 speed gear selector(necessary for Turbo box), 3 spoke steering wheel(personal preference) and an XR3i rear spoiler(not sure whether to fit this or not yet). Oh, and I managed to find 2 NOS Car Of The Year stickers as well!!! Think they will make a nice touch.... In other news, the arches will now be staying standard, but wheels are still a headache. jcreber, I had thought of Mondeo steels, and I do like the look, but it's quite a popular wheel to use, Wenny's car being one example, and I really would like to do something different. Think I'll keep them in the ideas bank tho, just in case I change my mind. As for colour, I had originally thought of changing it, as I have a hankering for a graphite grey Mk3, but I can understand why people like the original colour, it is nice. Can feel a forum vote coming for that one! Car runs mint as well, shame really as the CVH just doesn't have enough power for me. Not bad for £300!!!! On the plus side, the engine and four speed box will be going for sale on here, so might help somebody else with their project. Had a quick poke around it today, battery tray is solid, best I've seen for years, and the rear arches are mint underneath that horrible underseal!!! I was expecting them to be completely Ronnied!! Sills are solid, just a little scabby, 1 little patch of welding floor to inner sill nearside and nothing on the bulkhead.... I reckon this little car has been well looked after, borne out by the fact that it has been owned by a Dr Feldman since May 1990!!!! I had to bring it home to sunny Manchester from London, towed it on my A Frame with my Passat Turbo. Update with pictures of new parts coming tomorrow.................

Always thought mk5 rs2000 alloys look good on these or mk 6 si alloys aswell. Nice project. Looking forward to the outcome.

Great to see another mk3 escort on here, they don't seam to get alot of attention outside the Rs/Xr models. I too am stuck for wheel options, ive got the rs wheels on mine as they were cheap, wanted to keep 13's but they lack ground clearance, so waiting for some cool 14" wheels to come along.
Bookmarked and look forward to the updates, Charlie.

This is the best pick of Si's old mk1 fezza I can find With older Audi rims, you'll need to open up the centres as their CB is 57.1mm and if you want to run 5 stud porker rims, you'll need 2 peice adaptors to go from 4x108 - 5x130 Nice project though, liking the love mk3's are now getting

Update time: Been too busy working to actually spend any time working on the car I have, however, had time to spend money on parts, so I can crack on with it as soon as I have a bit of time free..... Drivers door skin, still in wrapping Drivers side wing Spax adjustables Nos light units XR3i rear spoiler S1 Turbo steering wheel NOS Car of the Year decals and bonnet clips Still need a n/s wing, and a pair of front bumper end caps for bumpers with impact pads. Also gonna need a rear wiper and washer set up to fit with the spoiler. Wheels are still to be decided, as is the colour, I like the original colour, but I have a long standing hankering for a beige MK3 with white banded steels..... I'm hoping to have the car ready for the end of April, as that's when the tax runs out on my Alfa 155, and I wanna take that one off the road then and give it some much needed tlc.... Opinions, info, posts telling me I'm being a kn*b, mojo boosts etc, all welcome. Got plenty to do on it, but my industry is quiet for about six weeks after New Year, so I can get loads done then.
