I've got a rotted out 1980 Mustang with a 2.3-litre carburetted Pinto motor. It needs to be gone by the end of the month, so if there's anything you need let me know ASAP as the banger boys want the shell. It's rotted all down the left side - it spent the last 10-15 years parked up against a hedge. It's a base-model, left-hooker, auto, NO SUNROOF. I put a battery on it today, checked the oil, threw some fuel down the carb and it started up. If you really wanted a project car, I have a nice rear quarter and a half-decent door I could let go with it. Dave O771 535 O259 Pic here: www.rodsnsods.co.uk/forum/stuff-sale/1980-mustang-2-3-breaking-140265PS - it's in Lichfield, Staffordshire, about 20 miles north of Birmingham

Does £150 with ancillaries sound fair? I've asked around, and apparently the 18,000 miles on the clock IS first time around... Dave

am i right in thinking this engine is not the same as our pinto engine ie the bellhousing pattern is different so our english gearbox wont fit. i expect some knowlegable member will know for sure

It's not a Pinto it's what's know as a Lima engine, looks very similar to a Pinto but iirc doesn't share any common components. It's should have the "Ford 4 cylinder bellhousing pattern" like Pintos, CVHs, DOHCS, Zetec and Xflows. Not a very well supported engine in the uk in terms of tuning, but boosted versions did come from the factory in some Mustangs and the US Sierra XR4Ti. Sadly in NA form not a desirable engine

Sierra - here we go again! He has an illness, it's not his fault.

Hi, sorry I was at the NEC all day yesterday! Yes, this is an American engine called the Pinto because it was designed for the Ford Pinto. It does share the same bellhousing pattern as a Euro Pinto, AFAK. They did do factory turbo versions which were dreadful as stock but can be built up to give frightening BHP ... there's a guy in the US running low eights on one. Price for complete engine - inc starter and all ancillaries except PAS pump - I was thinking about £150? You can have the C3 gearbox with that if you want it. I have a couple of pics but it's still in the car so they don't show much! Let me have your email address... Dave
