So then as posted in my thread earlier in the week, i have investigated the "hissing" air escaping sound on my GT Turbo. I found under the heat shield this, no not the turbo but the mangled looking gasket. It seems the metal gasket has blown, thus the air escaping noise. My question is this, before i go and strip the turbo out and render the car imobile, are these metal gaskets easy to get hold of? From what i'm led to believe it also isn't a standard turbo or manifold. Any thoughts as to suppliers?

Oh yeah and would having that hole make the nasty gravely sounding noise too?

renault 5 gt turbo?
I think i have the same turbo on my ghia. if so, the metal gaskets arent easy to find. You can get gaskets for them, just no the good quality metal ones.

Yes it is A Ren 5 Gt turbo.
Suppose i'll just have to take it apart and see what it looks like, and see if i can get a match.
Even if they are bad quality, where did you get yours from?

Do Prima racing do them then or was that just a suggestion? Looked on there site but can't find anything on gaskets. Sorry,it was really a suggestion to give them a call, they're bound to do them. Is it a Garrett? If so, www.turbotechnics.com/docs/index.htm might help. It also looks like you have a bolt missing if it's this shape

You also seem to have a wheel bolt screwed into an orifice probably meant for a lambda or temp sensor..

its cast iron to cast iron, IMO you don't need a gasket, infact in my experience gaskets make the chances of it blowing much higher.
same as between the manifold n turbo.
every turbo car ive had ive removed the gaskets, usually as theyve started to blow, and after that, no issues. this includes 2x Renault 5 GTTs, inc a v.highly tuned one.
just make sure the mating surfaces are ok and the bolts are done up nice n tight. with that suface, as its post turbo, there no harm in using some exhaust paste to make sure either.
the wheelnut bodged into the back is where a pipe used to go to, not a sensor, i forget which one now, but its not important really if the other sides plugged too.
turbo n manifold look stock to me, but pics arnt exactly good enough to tell.
suprised a blowing exhaust side would make a hissing sound too, usually either the normal tractor diesel shitbox sound or a strange ticking noise which makes you think youve bent a pushrod or summat...

Update. Good things come to those that gets stressed. Took my turbo bits off then to check the concition of my gasket, and after half an hour of cursing and scrapped knuckles i had the parts seperated. The gasket as expected was in a sorry state , in 5 seperate pieces, hence the hissing noise! Off to my local Renault dealers i go, gaket bits in hand along with turbo to exhaust elbow. Show the parts bloke, he scurries off. Few minutes later, "no the computer doesn't show a gasket for a phase one". Ok what about phase two. he goes and checks again. Comes back "No sorry mate still no, but if you still can't get one else where ring up". Off to another dealer, same thing No gaskets. Sod this i thought so went and asked a technician, " No mate they don't have them, it should be a nice machined finish, therefore not needed, clean the surfaces and use some exhaust paste" cheers. So ,yes as Stavros has suggested guys no , you don't need a gasket. Highlighted with blue arrow. After fitting it all back up, sure enough happy chappy the air hissing noise has gone as has the more worrying gravely sound, but now it has a totaly wibblepoo idle to the extent it only runs with the choke on! curse word.
