I'm on the hunt for some ceramic continental fuses rather than the hard plastic ones after having one of my plastic ones melt  Does anybody know of a supplier that actually does ceramic ones? I have tried a few people on eBay but they all do plastic ones Cheers in advance! |

Something is wrong if the fuses are melting. Either substandard plastic (doubtful) or possibly a wiring fault. Maybe a duff connection in fuse box where fuse locates ?

Apparently this is common with higher amperage plastic bodied fuses, it's for my fuel pump with is getting replaced anyway as it's the original and probably drawing more current than it should although that doesn't explain why the fuse didn't go!

The fuse has only melted at one end. If it was duff plastic then you'd have seen melting all along the area where the metal is in contact with the plastic and also at the other end. I therefore assume it's the fusebox that is faulty. Maybe where the wire attaches to the fuse contact if the hole where fuse locates is clean. You get higher amperage fuses than the one you are using without melting so it's not the fuse that is at fault. Putting a ceramic fuse will just hide what is wrong however if you want to take the risk and more than likely suffer a breakdown or fire somewhere along the line then Amazon list ceramic fuses - www.amazon.co.uk/CERAMIC-continental-style-classic-fuses/dp/B007UZ7KMYHave you trawled around scrap yards looking for them ? On my MKII Golf it had a problem with the fuses and changing the whole box eliminated the fault. What I'm saying is don't automatically assume the fuse is at fault as they are used in millions upon millions of other vehicles without problems so you need to investigate what is happening. Just because somebody else says they have same problem doesn't mean you both don't have a faulty connection / fuse box. Paul h |

This isn't normal.
I swapped the ceramics out from my W124 because they're so rubbish but, admittedly, they don't melt.
My spares are all plastics too but I am a hoarder so I kept the ceramics.
