Right I am currently trying to arrange to get this brought over from Jersey. I had got a price of £450 to go across on the ferry with my discovery and trailer and bring it back. Now looking at getting it brought over on a flatbed and just pay the freight charge, (saves me the ferry journey as well ). The current owner is happy to bring it to the port Anyone any idea how or if they need re-registering a channel isles car for the mainland UK, or any ideas of a cheaper way to bring it over. Still got a 700 mile journey with the trailer to pick it up even if I can get it brought over for cheap(`ish)

Oooo, that's nicely hidden, not seen that over here! Looks like it hasn't moved much for quite a while, was offered an Austin A40, this colour & about this condition, for free a couple of years back - but had no room for it As for exporting it to the UK, the current owner will have to send in the logbook for it, with the "Car is being exported" box ticked - I believe they then get a certificate of export, which you'd send in to the DVLA... I think... Not sure though! As for shipping it, a few people I know have used Ship&Fly, so you can fly across & have your car meet you in the UK, if you hate boat journeys But I believe they're pretty flexible - prices say from £157, so might be worth a look..

I've got some friends who lived and rallied over there, who now live in mainland UK...I'll ask them for you.

Skipping the ferry journey sounds like a great idea. I seem to recall it's a fugging ball-ache of a journey. Takes forevAr.

I brought my Accord back that I purchased while working in Guernsey for a couple of years. No real hassles - got it MOT'd on the chassis number, sent the logbook to the DVLA, got a V5, got some plates made up. Only ballache was getting a EU Certificate of Conformation, which had to come from Holland, which seemed odd as the car was UK-spec and built in Swindon.
You will probably have to pay VAT on the purchase price of the Magnette, I got away with this as I had owned the car in Guernsey for more than 6 months. IIRC I had a 'restricted' V5 for 12 months afterwards as well, so I'd get collared on the VAT if I sold the car.
Poggers is right, the ferry trip is a bit of a ballsache as you might have to take the 'slow' ferry with a trailer. But you might be able to get on the 'fast' one which would run at this time of year (it won't go in more than a Force 5 wind) which only takes about 2.5hrs from Weymouth. Bloody pricey though those Condor ferries, 'cos they've got no competition on the route. Set me back £300 for me and the car last time.

Cheers all. Just waiting for Condor ferries and ship and fly to get back to me. If I can get it shipped across for less than a couple of hundred then its gonna be worthwhile. By the time I add the price of the car, logbook and my diesel for the trip it should still work out pretty cheap for what it is.

Nice one on finding what you wanted at last If the car was registered on the mainland when new, before it went to the Channel Islands, you may be able to get its original reg no back. Our Sun-Tor lived on Guernsey for about six years in the 80's and we've got some of the paperwork showing the transfer of a Guernsey plate to it and then its return to its old number when it came back to the mainland. The DVLA ought to be able to find its old number I'd have thought using the chassis number. Alternatively you could try the Heritage Motor Centre Archive at Gaydon who probably have its build data Gaydon Archive
