AFAIK, the V8 was only offered in the sedan as stock. The coupes would all be Rekords or Commodores. And they used the lowest output 2 barrel version of the 283 (some had the 327 but again not in high output)
I guess for the time they were kinda zazzy.
AFAIK all were 2 speed autos as well. No 3 speed and no manual.
It also means that the 350 (or a stroker 383) will drop right on in.

I don't think the rekord c ever had a v8, the Diplomat had the 327, but as far as I know, the largest engine in the Rekord C\Commodore A was the 2.5 GS\E injection straight six..
Oh, and I have rekords in 4 door, 2 door and hardtop coupe guise ;D

Does this mean they already came with V8's and my crazy idea of dropping a smallblock in was already done in the factory? That's the bloody efficient Germans for you

Oh, and I have rekords in 4 door, 2 door and hardtop coupe guise ;D Thats what I meant. the Diplomat was 4 door sedan only and was the only one to get the Chevrolet V8. However, I always assumed these cars were pretty similar under the hood so retrofitting a V8 into a Rekord or Commodore must be fairly straight forward. I'm sure dp said than in Sweden its one of the few V8 engine swaps you can legally do or something.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_DiplomatAccording to Wikki there was a Diplomat A coupe - but I guess not based on the Record coupe as it was made by Karman in limited numbers. Also they claim it had the 307 from '64 which is not possible as the 307 didn't come out until '68 or so. early ones had the 283 'cos thats what Chevy made back then

Jonny, if you ever need, i could write down the most important phrases to survive in Germany: to order beer, ask if u could see her tits and even most common terms in communication between traffic police/law and english-speaking tourists.
Back to topic: As i know, a guy here in Stuttgart did such an engine swap, even TÜV-approved !!!! The car ist yet sold. He called his red Rekord "The Duke".
Cant find good pics of the car, his old website is down...

All you really need is the german for "I'm sorry officer, I thought there were no speed limits at all in Germany" (oh, and the one about seeing breasts).
