A woman sent me an email from Florida last week saying that she and her husband had been looking for a Mini in the US for several months but not managed to find one. They found my car on minisforsale.com and requested for more information / pictures which I sent them. Their bank is releasing them the money (I gather it’s a bank loan) at the end of this week and wants to know how I would like the money! I’ve suggested using Western Union Transfer (anyone used it before?) instead of a Bankers Draft – but I’m a little sceptical!
It doesn’t sound like the usual money laundering mails you normally get, but I’m still a little confused on whether to take their correspondence seriously. I spoke to them last week on the phone, and they’ve promised to phone me again tomorrow regarding the situation.
Any thoughts people?

I've sold cars abroad before (to Europe, not the states) and had money transferred into my account directly (They should be able to organise that with account number, sort code and swift code (phone the bank for the swift code))
Just make sure that you don't let go of the car until the money has definitely cleared!!!

BTW Not your problem really, but ! wonder if they know that they shouldn't be importing a mini of less than 25yrs old as it doesn't pass the crash tests???

I don't really want to give them my account number and sort code......... Why? there's nothing they can do with it alone. Check with your bank they'll tell you. S

If they want it and they're genuine they'll send the money anyhow. I'm with you, not good giving bank detail out to strangers.

Sounds like good sense to me, especially with these fraud rings running about nicking peoples' money as well as their motors. Be on your toes, they sound genuine but then so did Tony Blair a few years back (almost)
