I ask this due to a recent experience. Couple of months back I bought J reg 2.0 Astra from BnD's works for the lump. Came off the road 10 years ago cos it needed a loom which was done 2 years ago, but the car didn't sell. So I put new wipers on it, swap a tyre and it passes a test. Sold it to mum to replace the Civic. Lasted 3 WEEKS! Little old lady pulled out in front of her on a by pass when she was about 4ft away. The fire brigade cut the roof off, saying it was cufked anyway. Luckily got away with cuts and bruises. Also reminded dad of the 'jinxed Minx' he had. 7 bumps and a welding fire in 2 weeks of ownership Any other stories?

Mechanic's rule #1... If the car works, anything left on the floor after you finished wasn't needed in the first place

Every previous owner of my red 2cv had sold it after having near death experiences in the car, I sold it after doing 70mph down the A34 and having both track rod end lever arms come away from the hubs

pre-reg green felicia, parents had it from new.
5 major accidents in 5 years ownership, 7 including minorer bumps. jeep pulled out and stopped midway across a crossroads and took the front drivers side out completely. my mum hit black ice and did a 540degree spin and ended up halfway up an embankment. i handbraked into a wall. a corsa slammed into the back and finally wrote it off, although it still went fine. towbars save lives.

Guess I've been lucky......I had a mate who's parents bought him a brand-new Cinnobar Red Mini Sprite back in 1984...by the time it was 18 months old the roof was the only original panel left on it, but that was down to him driving like a numpty.
v8devon had an early A-plate Fezza 1.1L back in about '89...I remember that getting walloped by a Nissan Ebro, then after it was repaired some old dear in a Yugo pulled out on him and the whole front got stoved in....then he rebuilt it himself with a 1600CVH, twin DCNF's, the whole hog.
The day after it went back on the road it got sideswiped by a woman at the Merry Hill Centre...after it was repaired yet again his neighbour reversed into it...then we were playing silly buggers on a notorious stretch of road, went over a massive yump and the engine creased the bonnet on landing.
I think the final straw was when, on checking the oil one day, he spotted massive stress cracks down both inner wings. Goodbyeeeeee Fezza!!!!

When my dad bought a brand new mk1 cavalier sportshatch many years ago- before I was born he was told by my grandad (his father-in-law) to get underneath, find a place thatwas hard to see and put a big dent in it with a hammer. Apparently this was to break the "jinx" that all new cars have on them. Grandad swore by this method of accident/mishap prevention. My dad ignored him.
A few months later, in a sunny suburb of Birmingham dad was tootling along at 30 MPH when a rover P6 swerved across the road and hit the poor Cav head on. The rover was written off but the Cavalier being so new was deemed fit to be repaired, although it was a real mess. Dad escaped unharmed.
A week or so later dad recieved a hone call from the body shop repairing the Cavalier. Apparently someone welding the car had set fire to it and it was now partially burnt out. The car was still repaired but my dad never saw it again. His next car was a Volvo 265.
Not sure if the Cav was realy jinxed, but a bit of a spooky story all the same. I certainly have cars that have more than their share of bad luck.
