This is a 1993 Honda Accord Aerodeck. It came up locally at a price I couldn't refuse, so I didn't refuse it. I didn't really have any need for it, but that's never stopped me in the past. At the moment, though, I do have need for both space and cash, as several of the fleet are due for tax and/or MoT this month, so the Honda's got to be moved on.
I bought it off an old couple who'd had it for eight years or so. It's done plenty of miles (197K), but being an early '90s Honda it wears its mileage well and drives nicely.
The bodywork isn't too bad for its age. There's a couple of dents - one in the tailgate and a small one on the NSF wing; there's a small patch of grot just under the driver's door mirror and the usual slightly scabby rear arches (offside has been welded in the past); and one of the headlight washers is missing. The paintwork isn't bad - it has the odd scuffs and a bit of lacquer peel on the front bumper, but otherwise it's quite presentable. It has a hefty towbar on the back, with both ball and pin capability - complete overkill for the garden trailer that it used to tow, but there you go. It also has a full set of original Honda trims. Tyres are budget jobs but have plenty of tread.
The interior is in pretty good nick really. It has nice squashy velour seats, and a clever combination boot cover / dog guard in the back. There's a few neat touches actually, including the holes in the back of the rear seat bases to slot the headrests into when the seat is folded down.
It has electric windows all round, electric sunroof, central locking and cruise control, all of which work. There is currently no stereo fitted. I have no idea if the aircon works - it's hard to tell one way or the other at this time of year - but on my past experience with old Hondas I wouldn't be surprised if it did. The only electrical fault I've found is the ABS light occasionally comes on whilst driving - although this could just be because it hadn't been used much before I bought it so the discs had gone a bit rusty. The light goes out as it should when the engine is started, and if it does come back on it doesn't do so for several minutes, so won't be an MoT issue.
It has an engine.
It's the 2-litre 16-valve SOHC engine. It starts first go and sounds healthy, doesn't get hot or smoke, and actually pulls pretty well, although like most Japanese engines it likes to be revved to give its best. The gearbox (5-speed manual) is nice and slick, and the clutch appears to be good. Overall it's quite a pleasant car to drive, and certainly more appealing to a keen driver than the Carina E I'm currently using as a daily.
It's tested until 22nd May 2014, and taxed until the end of the year. It's in Norfolk, about 15 miles NE of Norwich, and I'm after £250 for it.
