so my older brother said a few months back, how do you fancy my cav when I get something else?how much I asked, you can just have it was the reply! I picked it up on Monday night and apart from the knocking ball joint which I already knew about it was a pleasant drive,i say pleasant but i'd forgotten just how heavy unassisted steering is!(awaits calls of tart etc!)having only driven work vans and more modern stuff for a while I did quite enjoy the basic driving feel and how small it is compared to the modern equivalent.put it in for mot today and its going to be about £200 to get it through but with the car being free I thought why the hell not? anyways about the car... best pic I have at the moment. it is a 1.4L boggo spec bundle of blue blandness but I do have plans to make some changes, been looking at the threads on roller painting cars and am going to give it a go!obviously the mobility scooter spec wheels will be going and it will be heading downwards too,but the main thing about this will be to see how much I can change it on next to no money! all ideas/comments/criticism welcomed cheers for reading.

I used to much prefer the Cavalier over the Sierra back in the day. They look relatively modern still even now.
If it were mine, before spending effort and time modifying I would work out if it is likely to pass next year's mot. If you are having £200 of welding then I would just drive it for the year.

it needs a couple of old repairs re doing the rest is okay, some of it I could do myself but don't have time and the tax is up so just need it tested so I can tax it.treating it as a learning car to try stuff out on,i realise it will never get near most of the projects on here but should be fun seeing how it ends up!

the 1.4 is extremely rare. take car of it. I agree, it was only available on the early models but its a cracking engine tho a bit underpowered for the size of the car but still very useable. Ive been after a clean 1.4 cavalier for years if you decide to let it go as it is :-(

That looks good for a free car, even if its £200 for MOT, bargain. I think 4 doors look better than the 5 door hatch.
Please don't roller paint it! I think bland blue is the new way forward. Just needs a clean. I think with the bumpers covered in oil so they're nice and black and some heavily chopped springs it would look really good. Plus its free! Might even look good with the current wheels.

Get some linseed oil for the bumpers, some polish for the paintwork and some period wheels/wheel trims and you're away! 1990 Repmobile!
Looks great though, reminds me of my parents old white one.

the photo makes it look cleaner than it is,but if it is as rare as some say would it be wrong to make irreversible changes?

eventually it will end up being rarer or as rare as any gsi,4x4,sri,turbo mk3 cav, its your car to do what you wish with it. personally i would suggest only doing things that can be reversed.

Personally I think the car looks great in the colour it is, really suites it. Get it low, stick some slabs on it and it'll look great

Ooh yes.. As mentioned above, some slabs (I love "cav slabs") and a drop would be amazing. Whatever you do though, at least the old girl is still getting some attention

think slabs are on the cards, should have it back this week and I might have a rethink.will start with mopping the paint and see how it looks then with the paint as good as it can be with the plastics done too.the interior will need a good scrub too and I will leave the rollers in the cupboard for now...

Nice Cavalier, good to see you got a mot for it! All I would do to it is colour code the front and rear bumper fill ins, and get a nice set of period Vauxhall alloys, not slabs though! I have 15" fans on my SRi at the moment and they look great. Good to see a saloon 1.4 though, probably rarest of them all, a keeper I would say!
