Twas foggy on the way to work this morning, so lights were deployed. Until I bought the Golf, I had been using my wife's Cinquecento Sporting for work - this has a very cool feature, when you turn the ignition off the lights go out so you get kinda lazy about turning them off. (Can you see where this is going, kids...) Yes, I left the lights on all day and nobody thought to tell me. So when I went outside this evening... click, pathetic alarm noises and curse word-all else. No problems, I'll get a lift home and get my wife to drive me back to work with some jump leads... which she did. No problem? Hmmm... Every tried getting jump leads onto a Fiat Cinq battery? You can't. Some ar$e put the bulkhead in the way and so you can't get the positive on. Jolly botheration (or words to that effect). So back into the Cinq, back the 5miles home to collect the Imp and repeat the process.... Thankfully the Golf started first turn....

Sounds like someone will fit a relay in the circuit to switch the lights off with the ignition then. ;D

I'd say a lights on warning buzzer is a better bet, purely for the fact if you ever break down at night and can't turn the ignition on, you won't have any lights.

Hmmm, I certainly won't be doing that again in a hurry... (he says with fingers crossed). I did like the comment from one of the oh-so-f*cking-helpful truck drivers who passed, who said the Imp wouldn't jump start a Golf and that I'd do better with a "(f*cking) Duracell battery"... perhaps it was a reference to my hair. If he had been any closer he would have been cleaning his teeth with a supository this evening.... Oh well, hope the darn thing starts tomorrow morning, it only had a 7 mile run to recharge the battery....

Can you get a jump lead onto the starter motor live feed from the battery?

Can you get a jump lead onto the starter motor live feed from the battery? Er, no... the starter is too 'buried'. Hey... guess what? Damn Golf didn't start, looks like the battery has carked it.
