Sorry just a quickie, I need a new tax disk for the MR2 (currently S O RN (sort of) ) April 1, is Sunday. Post offices only open at silly times, could I get Aprils Disk on Saturday morning 31/03/2007? Knowing how tight the rules are, i'm expecting a quarral, or to have to wait till monday morning, meaning morning off work, and Sunday night in uncomfy bed etc etc any advice or help welcome. cheers

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

no problem, IIRC you can buy your disc up up to 2 weeks before the end of the month.

I presume the V10 still has a box marked "please state the date you wish the new licence to start from"
Its ages since I needed to use a V10.

Do it online? Technically, you still shouldn't drive the car until you have the disc in the windscreen but I have previously taken the chance as if the reg plate is scanned, it'll show as being taxed. I renewed the 2CVs tax last week for the end of the month. Got in just before the budget upped the price! Bargain!

Ummm, not sure about that! I did the tax for the BMW on-line, disc came within 72 hours, but 7 days later the DVLA site was showing it as 'license due'... I assume this is the same data that the feds, traffic wardens & spy cameras have?

You can get tax any time after the 15th of the previous month i.e. after 15th of march you can get your tax that's valid from april.
Although i'm not sure whether that means you are entitled to be driving on the road if your car was previously SORN, or if your tax only becomes valid on the 1st of april ??

Hmm, I'm sure I have been in this situation a few years back and been sent away from P.O. muttering blue words, although the rules exist, it depends what jobsworth is at the PO, I could do the online thing. there was an Astra on the road pavement, across from work checking out tax with a camera gizmo on a tripod with the occupants eating dinner. Plus near home, camps of police checking vehicles passing by, with a tow truck on stand by! Both my mom and dad have been stopped in their clunkers. arrgh big brother!!! joy riding is the way, worst case is community service.
