My friend who does concours in her Mini Clubman has her engine like that. It is amazing!
All done by herself as well, no sending it off to be chromed or even made, she did it all.
I will try and dig out a picture.

I like a clean engine, but I really don't like unnecesary shiney stuff in there, like polished battery coverZ and stainless brake fluid reservoir coverZ....... looks a lot better if it's cleaned and origional IMO. This is the engine bay of my MG Mongtego currently: It's really clean, and nothing painted that shouldn't be painted or anything, just the way I like it! Shame it doesn't run! The engine i'm building for the Escort will be in a simular vein I reckon, not too OTT just clean and functional.

My engine's aren't shiny, In fact they're totally covered it sheeeite for one simple reason: I need to find time to pick my ass, wash my hair and cut my cats toe nails but If anybody wants to come polish them up please do, its not that I wouldn't appreciate it its just that I haven't the time. ;D

A clean engine is also much nicer and easier to work on.....if you like to do that kind of thing.

i don't mind the odd painted bit under my bonnet, I'm gonna re paint my rocker cover soon just for a bit of interest under there but chromes not my thing, i do like a clean looking engine bay with the wires hidden etc.

That turbo Pinto is going into my mates Capri shortly.... Well if he changes his mind he can always send it over to me! I've given the painted adges a wipe over a couple of times so it's not filthy, but i doubt it'll ever be spotless!

Isnt chrome generally a bit bad in engine bays? I know chrome tin on beetle engines isnt a great idea due to heat build up, but bug engines have defined hot and cold areas.
