where I live its a shared car park, in the corner is a mk2 MR2 and it has been gathering moss under a tree for around a year, never seen anyone go to it or whoever put it there
how do I find its owner? [asked neighbours, they have no idea]
thanks

What about putting a big note on the windscreen asking owner to contact you ? If it's a shared car park, rather than public, then surely you will know who is allowed to park there so why not draft a polite message and slip it thought every bodies door ?

You can apply for a v5 to the DVLA they will contact the previous owner,if there is no reply from the previous keeper they (the DVLA) will issue a V5. That doesn't make you the owner/keeper of the vehicle though. What you can do then is speak with the DVLA as the registered keeper and see if they have any previous keepers and maybe that way trace the current owner by speaking with them to find out who they sold it to etc. It may take some time but it can be done with a bit of patience. If the current keeper responds to the DVLA then you won't get a V5 but again a letter to them stating the vehicle is abandoned they "may" contact the owner on your behalf.

Kinda what he said, apply for the V5 and you will either get a new V5 or a knock on the door from the police! If you get the V5 it will have the previous keepers details on it so you can then contact them to ask if they want their car back or as the registered keeper you can pay the DVLA a fiver and they will give you copies of all the old V5's.

thanks for the info, its not a private car park so could be classed as public I suppose, although it is intended for residents only

I think the idea of applying for a log book is just wrong, you aren't the new keeper/ owner/ or responsible for it in anyway

thanks for the info, its not a private car park so could be classed as public I suppose, although it is intended for residents only If it belongs to a housing ass. or council tell them about the car and they will get it lifted. There will likely be terms in the lease or rental agreement that cars in the car park should be taxed and insured.

There will likely be terms in the lease or rental agreement that cars in the car park should be taxed and insured. Many years ago (mid 70's) I found a Berkeley B95 on a unsurfaced waste land type car park (in Leek, Staffs - where Wilkingsons are now) that interested me. I tried to find owner by asking around (traffic wardens were most helpful - this is when they were part of Police and didn't have "targets" !) and eventually asked council. Next thing I knew the car had disappeared. Eventually I found out it belonged to the owner of the pub the other side of the car park and he told me I could have had it for free if I'd asked as council had removed it for scrap as site was being developed. Moral of story is if you don't ask then you will never know but on the other hand it might make somebody else do something about it first ! Paul h BTW I did eventually have a Berkeley but it was the more common T60 version.
