hi to you all, firstly i like to thank you all the the positive threads on my car, it's nice to see that people get what i was trying to achieve with the car. here are a few pics on various parts of the build, as one of you pointed out most of the sva test was quite easy as externally it's quite modern so passes all of the light height, corner radius and protusion tests ok, hardest part was the fuel system as its now ilegal have any part of the fuel system inside the car so couldn't use the merc tank which idealy bolts behind the back seats and had to fabricate a completely new external tank and box in the fuel filler to satisfy regs, photo's should explain a bit better. any questions please ask.

Hi - if I've understood this correctly the car is finished and has already been through the IVA? If so, when was this and was there not an issue with the windscreen and other glass?

I saw the photo's of the finished article and it does look good.
Also refreshing to see someone building a hybrid car like this to comply and pass the regulations, rather than get all arsey and hide away from everyone.
Hats off to you for that

Hi - if I've understood this correctly the car is finished and has already been through the IVA? If so, when was this and was there not an issue with the windscreen and other glass? Ta Why would there be a glass issue? It's all stock, and factory glass has had the required markings to satisfy the IVA for many years.

As everyone else has said, well done on building this and putting it through the test etc. .... its now ilegal have any part of the fuel system inside the car so couldn't use the merc tank which idealy bolts behind the back seats and had to fabricate a completely new external tank and box in the fuel filler to satisfy regs Silly isn't it. I'm sure that the Merc tank in that internal position would be far safer in an accident than the route you've been forced into ie. a welded metal tank right at the back of the car.

Didn't want to spread misinformation on an open forum - which is why I thought it better to talk direct with VIP first. Thanks for clearing things VIP

Wow! Amazing stuff! Thanks for sharing this. Would love to see some more! As everyone else has said, MASSIVE KUDOS to you for doing this properly and getting it through the SVA! Shows that it can be done! As someone who’s currently trying to get their head around the rules in anticipation of going through the test too, I would like to take you up on your offer of a question! My reading of the rules regarding fuel tanks, particularly this bit: 11. A Fuel Tank must not be located in, or form part of the passenger compartment, or other compartment integral with it and the bulkhead that separate the passengers from the fuel tank must be free from holes through which any escaped fuel could travel
as well as this bit: 14. Fuel tank filling points must not be located in the passenger compartment, luggage compartment or within an engine compartmentdidn’t make me think the tank had to be outside the body shell? I’m guessing point 11 refers to tanks that form part of the bulkhead or back seat, and point 14 Moon or race tanks with filler their caps in the boot…? I was hoping that as long as I fulfilled the requirement that “The fuel tank must be positioned so that in the event of a leak the fuel could not accumulate or find a path to the passenger compartment”, (by creating a fully-sealed bulkhead between the boot and the passenger compartment) I’d be OK to have the tank in it’s stock location in the boot..? I’m worried I’ve missed something now, or I’m on an out-of-date copy of the rules! (I’ve got version 9.00 here, dated 17/06/2013) Be interested to hear your reasoning, or find out if you know something I don’t. (Which you almost certainly do, having passed the test!) Super-neat work on the tank and boxed-in filler, by the way! EDIT: PaulH has just pointed out to me that seeing as the Astra is a hatchback, the only way to separate the tank from the passengers is to have it outside... I feel slightly foolish now...
