Of what to do with my car. I hate the idea of anyone building cars to how other people want but I'm in a rut. I have been trying to decide for a few monthes now and can't decide. I am not saying your decisions will be final but they will definately help me decide. I need to decide soon cause I am nearly finished all my bodywork and will be getting painted in the next few weeks. This is the car in question, a 1975 KE30 Corolla Sedan. Now this will be getting built for daily driving along with as much track and early morning work on some nice winding roads. I can't decide whether to go with the Japanese style say something along the lines of this: That is exact same wheels, exact same mirrors, different colour though and as the watanabes(16x7,16x8) I have lined up at the moment maybe even similar flairs but that will be avoided if possible. Or the other option is the sleeper style, something like this: That is venetion blind, visor, gun metal banded van wheels with polished dress rims and red or white walls. Maybe same colour too. Now thats the style out of the way, its time for colour. I will try split it up. - Off white, doubt this needs pics. This is basically just an option for the sleeper style. - Supra white. This is just a nice plain bright white, no mettalics or anything. Just nice. Could work nicely with both styles. - Light mettalic blue/silver. Once again could work with both styles, BUT theres a few variations. Here's a couple of favourites: J spec R100 factory colour This mercedes(maybe) colour The custom jobby Hopefully thats more then enough info. Let us know what your favourite style and colour for the car is. It will definately be noted. Or if you think something wont work with eachother also feel free to let me know. Cheers, Peachey

Sleeper with the variation of the gunmetal grey-type custom colour IMO. Nice to see something subtle.
What be powering this beast anyhoo?

Both options are cool, If it was mine i'd like to keep the yellow and bolt on black arches.

If it was mine i'd like to keep the yellow and bolt on black arches. Same here. I think it's a great colour, all those silvery/grey shades are bit too sophisticated for it IMO. Why not just lower it over the wheels already on it?

"You don't need to do anything. It already looks great."
Cheersd, I liked it too, but I have left it as is as long as possible but the rust is starting to get a bit much and it needs a big tidy up and most is gonna be stripped so taking advantage while I can. There is a few with the same yellow around the place and I wouldn't mind playing with it. When they get done up though they always seem to be the same bright colours with chrome/polished wheels too big along with other hideous mods.
"sleeper style does it for me , which one draws you the most"
cheers, I love them both. These are my favourites and I can't differ between the two. Both have their good and bad points.
"What be powering this beast anyhoo?"
This hasn't been tended to yet. Body is priority and I am a panel beater/spray painter so naturally it comes first. Currently has standard 3K-H and 4 spd, but depending on what I get for my FC RX7. maybe a 12A with massive BP and ex race car twin sidedraught weber setup I have, or a heavily modded/race motor 5K and 5 spd or maybe even just go nuts with the 3K. But definately NA screamer. If I can sort out a few of the TRD 5K parts that will be the motor but no luck yet. All readily available to me though so a few options. Whatever it is will pretty much give away the game for a sleeper though, but maybe a Apexi ECV might help for daily use.
"Same here. I think it's a great colour, all those silvery/grey shades are bit too sophisticated for it IMO."
Its not bad but nothing overly interesting here. I thought that at first until I saw a few similar cars with them. It all just depends on what add ons are on the car and the car and it can be real nice.
"Why not just lower it over the wheels already on it?"
Not really an option sadly. The wheels are too narrow(4") and I need much wider. Plus wideing those wheels just are worth it, plus wide 13" tyres will cost too much, even wider 15's and 16's are much cheaper for me.

i think tbh sometimes a car that "evolves" as opposed to being built to a plan are often better and usually more individual!!
therefore if say, u wanted a to change the mirrors then do it... look at it again and u might think.....hummmm.... i think it would look good on deep dish bbs allys with a stretch?! then fit um and think "no if i painted them flat baby blue and pollished the rim with a slight drop forward rake".... "and a matching blue stripe down the side almost mexico ish...?" hummm..... might work?! now it needs screw on aussi style arches etc etc... just try something and let it evolve is my advice... si

Just don't fit 16" wheels to it !!
I know its a "Down under" Thing but it just looks Gash IMHO, you can never get them low enough to look right.... the J style suits it and they will be max 14"

16" RS-Watanabe's should actually suit it very well. OK, perhaps 15" might be the max for a KE30, but I know I could happily get away with 16" on the C110 without them looking too big. (I too have a dislike of large wheels on old cars)

Yeah i know what you mean about the wheels too big, but I am having trouble finding any genuine Watanabes watanabes at a reasonable price. Finally found a set and they are 16" so I guess that it will do. 16's on KE30's is actually smaller then the usual 17" Simmons FR's everyone uses anyway. I will see if I can dig up a pic or two of a KE30 with 17's to show you what I mean, so I should be able to get away with it. Plus with the 16's and their stud pattern(FC) and size will give me alot of cheap and serious brake options. Converting to 5 stud isn't a big worry as I have to convert the diff from drums to discs anyway and fronts Aren't too much of a hassle. I am just gonna tell the bloke selling the wheels that I want to sleep on it for a day or two just to make sure I am making the right decision.

Heres one that has 17" wheels on it for a bit of a guide. Thats basically sitting on the legal limit here for how low cars can be with 17" wheels. Couldn't find a side on pic sorry. Edit, these are the genuine magnesium watanabes and 16" by the way if it helps, definately wont be like the chrome wheels in the pic.

Ahwell so wheels are on their way here now. I decided to get them. If worse comes to worse I will paint them up nice throw em on my FC when it sells or sell them seperately for a nice profit or just keep them for the track if I go the sleeper route.
Anyone else wanna throw in some input so far this is how it seems: Sleeper:3 Leave it: 3 J-style:1

I would prefer to make it look like a hot JDM Corolla. Current colour would be great. HOWEVER if you do this, you've got to do it RIGHT IMHO. That means getting all authentic bits and pieces - otherwise it's just a bogan Corolla with flares.
16s would be way too big.

There was never an authentic JDM KE30. There were a fair few other similar JDM corolla's so I have genuine brand new corolla fender mirrors and such on the way, the rest is mostly factory. I really would prefer no flares if possible but it could be necessary to squeeze some decent with rubber underneath. Basically speaking the car will stay as is externally, apart from fender mirrors(same as on black KE25), a colour change, watanabe's with semi slicks and a slight lowering. And if totally necessary flares.
Regarding wheels, well unless I can find some 14 or 15" watanabes at a good price these will be used. I don't think they will be that bad, and hopefully you will agree once they're on but atleast I will be able to get some tasty brake hardware underneath alot easier. When the wheels around I will throw the under the guards(wrong stud pattern atm) to show a comparison and how the sizing will look.

Yeah I am pretty sure I have more pics of it. Definately up there with my all time favourite car pics. I will see what I can dig up but sadly that car got T boned and written off a couple of years or so back. Had a tough 5K in it.

Thats all I can find right now. Might actually be a slightly different car. IRC it was powered by a 5K with a mild cam, extractors, 2" exhaust, locked diff and that was virtually it.
