Well, long time waiting, but I'm home, and it's on the drive. This is my old family car from when I was a young kid, my Dad was finally coming around to the idea of letting it go, when I asked how much he wanted for it, he told me I could have it for nothing, obviously I jumped at the opportunity! It's a BMW 730ise, which was converted some time in the early 90's to a full Alpina B11 3.5 using all brand new parts from Sytners (Alpina's UK dealer) Spec as follows: BMW 730ise in 'bronzebeige metalic' with shadowline trim (chrome delete) Alpina B11 conversion comprising of: -Alpina B11 3.5 engine: This is your normal M30B35 'big six' Beemer engine, with Alpina cams, large valves, flowed and -ported heads, Alpina inlet and exhaust manifolds, Alpina ECU, Mahle pistons with oil squirters. -Alpina 4 speed automatic transmition, this has 'split gears' or some other curse word that makes it not quite so curse word. -Alpina/Bilstein suspension -Alpina rear axle, this is an LSD with a better final drive -Alpina front air dam and 'B11 3.5' grill badge - Did have the Alpina wheels and exhaust, but these have both been changed over the years. Full retrim my father paid £2,000 for at some point, leather doorcards, glovebox etc. It's had two bare metal resprays in it's life too, although it's a bit rough around the edges now. I have every single receipt from new too, which is nice. Owned by my father for the past 20 years, was Noel of NCB Autokrafts personal car before this. Anyway, here's some pictures of the old girl, bare in mind it hasn't moved for three years! I put a new battery on it and it fired straight up, it sounds curse word lovely! There's quite a few bubbles popping up around it, but I've been putting money away these past few months and the body work is gonna be getting sorted out professionally as soon as it's on the road. I've got these to go on it, I thought the car deserved a set of 10j splits And the plates are a bit manky, so I've had these made, my initials are OTDN for what it's worth haha: So there it is, comments welcome Olie

Oh yeah, very cool. I like the Alpina front lower spoilers. Remind me of the E9 batmobile CSL's.

Hey, cheers for the comments! So far all I've done is give it a quick wash and assessed what needs doing cosmetically, there's a few more little bits that I've noticed but these are the main bits letting it down Rust: Front driers arch Rear pas side arch Boot lid Leading edge of the drivers door, there is the obvious fold, and if you look closely the same again under the rub strip. Where something has obviously hit the roof in a couple of places Mirror mounts, I think I'll do these myself for the experience Amazingly, that's it as far as rust goes. As I say the car hasn't done many miles since it was bare metal resprayed, so once these are sorted I'm hoping the paint will come up really well. Other cosmetic issues are: The bumpers need re-blacking, I'm considering doing these with black plastidip. Tow hitch needs removing. This bit of damage to the bumper irritates me The trim around the windows and on the side trim, you can see (really really obviously) where this was obviously chrome in a previous life. Undecided if this will go chrome or black, my gut is telling me black. Some of the leather panels on the interior are coming away at the edges In a few places lines that should be straight are distorted where bits of trim are being forced out of place by either grim or corrosion, I need to get to the bottom of this. I've just been out and given it a quick once over with the sponge, it's come up quite well I think The paint is like this up close, really stubborn bits of curse word all over it so I've just come in to order a clay bar kit, will shift this stuff no worries. Been advised on another forum to give it a once over with something specific to tar before the clay which I think I will do. Still looking much better I think Gave the wheels a sponge down and was surprised they came up so well, literally just ran a sponge over them once. [/quote] They're in really nice condition to be fair, just a shame they don't suit it!

You and me both! I've gotta be honest, I put my whole interest in modified cars down to the day this showed up at home, so naturally I've liked Beemers ever since.. I'm into my classic fords and Beemers really, but I won't have another Ford as I can't justify paying 10k for a 1k car, I much prefer the BMW way of paying 1K for a 10k car

I'm with you there, I'd love a Mk 2 RS2000, but the price for them is phenomenal.
As you say BMW's are a proper bargain once they've a few years under their belt

Well I couldn't get to sleep after work this morning, and then the post man came so I decided to just have a little play with the car. I started putting the front end together the other day, which was when I noticed the drivers side grill was smashed to bits. I found a replacement for a fiver on eBay which is what the post man had brought today. Naturally the studs on the back off the B11 badge snapped clean off, had a quick word with the lads and they reckoned superglue would be up for the job so had a quick wander down to the hardware store and thankfully it worked a treat Decided to fit the new plates at the same time and gave her another quick wash to get her ready for the weekend. Before: After: Much better When I say 'getting her ready for the weekend', I mean I went on a bit of a shopping spree last night out of boredom... I've bought two cans of black Plastidip for the window surrounds and bumper trim, some Meguires Gold Class tar stuff to deal with the tar spots as a first stage of getting the paint sorted, some jazzy Dodo Juice clay bar as a second stage for the paint. Also treated myself to a low entry jack, some oil, an oil filter and an oil tray so that I can do the oil this weekend weather permitting. My tool collection is none existent having just moved out of home so I'm having to build my tool kit up as I go along I might treat myself to a beginners DA polisher and kit if funds allow, will see how I get on. I think it'll be looking much less sorry for itself once the trim is done Does anybody have any idea how I'm best sorting this out? Must be a relatively easy DIY way... Comments welcome as ever Olie

Got the exhaust fitted, both rear mountings had perished, so replaced both of those and got it mounted. Sounds lovely. I hate the monotonous sound of automatics, 'nerrrrrrrrrrrrrr nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr' sort of thing, so I don't want it amplified too much, I'm happy with an OEM burble on this and won't be putting a boy racer system on it. Have had an issue with the low oil pressure as documented in this thread: retrorides.proboards.com/thread/158517/bmw-m30-oil-light?page=1&scrollTo=1857833But at this point I'm convinced it is a wiring fault rather than a problem with the engine. I've ordered a 52mm Stack oil pressure gauge to be safe: Now I've ran the engine for a while, the amount of white smoke coming out the back and the new oil turning murky brown has got me worried about the head gasket, this car will be the end of me haha. I tried removing the bumper to get access to the towbar, one of the bolts rounded on me so I am awaiting delivery of a bolt extractor tool so the towbar can be removed. Got a couple more cans of Plastidip in the post so that the rest of the trim can be restored. The lights were asif the car had had a stroke haha, one each side of everything was blown, so I've been around it with a bulb kit and got them all working. Removed both aerials and filled the holes with grommets. It's not the most professional fix, but it's certainly an improvement (no photos sorry) Just a few little bits, but it's certainly starting to come together.

love the new wheels dude and i think i may have to try the plastidip on my E36 where did you get it from? Cheers man! I'm curse word nervous about trying them on to be honest! Going from 8j et20 to 10j et0. Gonna need some proper rubber bands out back haha! Plastidip is awesome stuff, but it's not cheap, £15 a can is the cheapest I've found so far, and the rear bumper took most of a can. It's ok, but I used another can on the front bumper and it went wrong so I had to peel it off, gutted Got another 2 cans in the post to redo the front bumper and finish the side trims Have a go man, it's great fun! Just got it off eBay, let me know if you find anywhere cheaper!
