have replied to PM and tried to explain there's quite a bit of work sticking the GT lump, as i've just found out. worth it though, mk2 weighs a fair bit less and IMHO is the better looking car too.

Whereas the 1.3spi engine are ten a penny - I blagged a free one, the guy just wanted it out of his way and I collected. A 1.3SPi engine with a chip (ask around on clubpolo, they're only a few quid) is 60bhp compared with 75bhp for the GT. Coupe S lump seems to be the same - I thought they had more than 60 bhp tho!!! I bought a complete AEX 1.4 MPi engine for £28 of a guy on UK Polos- handy for a spare head if mine ever snaps a belt ;D Polo GTs are getting quite rare and don't often get scrapped without everything desirable - engine, box, interior, rev counter clocks - being spirited away. Agreed - sellers market for parts off those

Failing that, get your hands on an HK code 1272. These have a tuning scene all of their own and are peppy little motors even in standard form. Mega-easy conversion too...you could probably even use your existing carb if you were on a tight budget. I'd go straight to a Weber myself, though. Thats what I've got in my mk1 golf driver......fantastic little engine. Standard with the solex 34 carby....honks along quite nicely.
