Been awhile! Just been enjoying it and doing a fair bit of mountain biking, Golf is far better for bike transport than the mx5! Few bits and bob's I have done are replacing the fuel lines in the bay as one was weeping, then did all coolant hoses and oil cooler last weekend. Oh and repainted the sills as they were faded and had a few bits of surface rust that i ground back and treated. Coolant metal line was grim Hoses looked original, the oil cooler was leaking a bit as well and are a known weak spot Perished old fuel line Gave it a wash, got my pal a snowfoam lance for his birthday, pretty fun to use! Turned out nice as well

Did front disc's pads and callipers about 2 weeks ago, turned into a total mission! Snapped one of the calliper bolts in the hub, really annoying as I have had them out before. In the end had to take the hub and drive shaft to university and give one of the technicians biscuits to extract it for me. I don't have a socket big enough to get hub nut off and wouldn't have been able to stop car rolling when trying to undo anyway. Was a money saver though as I don't have any of the tools needed to do it in Edinburgh as it snapped flush to the hub. Was investigating a knocking from the front end at the same time, originally thought it was exhaust flapping about as one of the rubber hangers had snapped. Turns out it was a top mount! I replaced them with the new springs and dampers less then 2k ago, bearing was collapsed in it so think it was just a faulty part. Other side is fine, ill keep an eye on them though. I reset the camber as it was a bit off and got everything back together, drives better than it ever has, don't think appreciated how bad the brakes were till I replaced them. So bit of a faff for what should have been an hours job but hey ho, old cars eh. Really glad my current flat has underground parking, saved much frostbite. Pants photo as per usual

Its not tax that makes the parts expensive now mate they are just very hard to find good. Supply and demand is making the expensive .

Looks really smart, that. I've found the same with my B3 Passat (just a fat Golf) with new parts lasting a matter of months. I've given up on Febi Bilstein parts, lots of forums reckon they're good but they're utter garbage in my experience.
You can get Meyle HD top mounts that fit these, just have to swap the spring top plate over to a mk3 golf one of the right diameter to match your springs. The top mounts are meant for Ford Galaxy/VW Sharan, but fit in the shock towers perfectly on these.
