on two good Sierra exercises.
The old wing on the sapph really was a let down, bizarely the only real rotted bit, it needs to be sold, so with dad unable to help, I decided to have a crack...
So go back 3 or 4 weeks ago.
I dragged out the brand new welder I bought to sort the old nail XR2 before coming to my senses.
had to buy a propper mask from a local weld shop, then some tin snips and clamp from local tool joint
Next up I needed some reliable dry work space
Hmmm
actually moving the cars was not easy, flat battery and no alternator meant it was a real PITA job long story short, with help and loan from next doors drive and ex engineer dude. I don't think he's my best mate.
lent me 2 old skool chargers that didnt work after i'd forgot mine, also heavy duty jump leads were left at home 35m away! Doh this meant burning leads not enough power, even with the neighbours matching leads doubling up leccy flow, still nop joy anyway we got there. eventually!
finally moved...
prepare the holes
my mom was chatting to me as I prodded more rust and filler out "just leave it at that", "nope its all getting done!!"
chopped a piece to fit
then a few practices.
the first few of these, I forgot to switch on the gas! turns out in part 2 I did not use gas for any of the job! the gas pipe was slightly loose so no gas used! DOH
on with the show
even the inside overlap got a look in.
of course it rained on teh way home and I was putting the old dude out so it could not stay in the garage there.
days later I had to protect it for the trip to birmingham, which was when the exhaust snapped! ;D
now it seems to of rained, snowed haled every time I have gone near this filler job. its becoming very tedious!
hense why its not finished and not sold yet!
typical weather
ready for final rub and paint next weekend...
a new wing would be easier but i'm glad I gave it a shot.
