Hi All,
I'm looking at buying and shipping over to the UK from the US a Dodge.
I've found the car I want, agreed a price and spoken with the dealer.
Has anyone got any pointers for doing this. Concerns include (though these I do not feel strongly having spoken to the seller):
Money going missing (eeek) Stolen car? Insurance and movement process of the car after purchase.
The seller is a 'bonded' garage in North Carolina.
Has anyone bought a car from the US and had it shipped over to the UK?
Anything anyone can mention would be great.
Cheers guys
Jon

I believe you can get a car on a container ship for under a grand, but then you have the wonderful taxes and duties.sure there will be people with more knowledge than me though!

I would use a shipping company that takes care of all of it from start to finish if you have the money . I have thought about doing it before but was worried like you about the many potential ways you could get done over . There are quite a few companys that advertise in the back of the kind of more upmarket glossy classic car mags . Also might be worth asking a company that already imports cars such as califonia connection if they would be willing to help as they will have a established and trusted way of doing it regulary .

www.stsimports.co.ukHave used for parts myself but know plenty of people who have used Ron for cars and are very happy. Even though the website implies otherwise he only really does containerised shipping which is the safest for the car.

Using a U.S. agent would be cheaper. where is car? I have some contacts. Usually a car will go in a shared container for $1200. You need a title and a bill of sale from the seller. If the car has no title it is a no go. You cannot export it without a title. Ask your seller if the car is currently titled and ask them to supply a copy before you part with any cash. Not all states have titles but if it doesn't have a title its damn near impossible to get it out of the country.

The biggest pains of importing the Frankenhealey was the fannying about with US banks trying to make the payment to the seller and the extra fannying about registering it for the first time through the local DVLA offices. Now they're closing all all the local DVLA offices by the end of the year haven't the foggiest what the process is now.

UKFOREX takes a lot of the arseache and cost out of sending money to a US bank. You pay them in £ and they pay it into the US account, and they cost less than doing it with the bank (better exchange rate)
