Hello all, while dropoing my exhaust on my mk3 escort, to get to the fuel sender off, I noticed some surface, so a quick clean up while I was there and a wipe over with petrol, then white spirit, I brushed some smoothrite on the rusty parts, so the plan was to paint the whole underside in, so as I clean it up some more I realised the whole underside has got a coat off body waxoil sprayed on it, witch is no longer sticky, so thought it was just dirt. Should have known realy, its got waxoil a sticker on the car and everything ive removed is covered in waxoil. So the question what do I do where the smoothrite that has gone over the wax? What best/ cheapest to get it off out of petrol/degreaser/thinners/white spirit. Or can I appy a new undrseal like brushable waxoil on the none rusty bits, witch is most of it, but want it black and fresh looking.
Thanks all and cheers for listening to my babble lol, Charlie

my best advise is to pay someone to do it for you, its a job thats really time consuming, boring and soul destroying and at the end its under the car where on one will ever see it lol

Its a nightmare to get off, I have had success buying a scraper with a holder for a single edged razor like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stanley-Razor-Edge-Scraper-5-Blades-STA028500-Perfect-For-Windows-Glass-/310365294649?pt=UK_DIY_Material_Paint_Varnish_MJ&hash=item4843369039And brushing white spirit into it using a tooth brush, it softens up nicely and just scrapes off, it takes days though I wouldn't recommend using waxoyl again, it protects well for a while but it hides corrosion under it eventually - and when the time comes to fix that corrosion its a nightmare to get the waxoyl off. I've been painting my cars undersides with Aldi metalcare paint, its good stuff, and you can see its condition, and clean it with a pressure washer I also wouldnt brush smoothrite over waxoyl, it has a tough enough time sticking to metal

I'd agree with the comments re. Waxoil and Hammerite - neither last very well. In a situation like that I've used Dinitrol 4941 which comes in a spray so it's dead easy to use. It'll stick to most surfaces - I'd remove any crusty bits, treat with their Converust fluid them spray the underbody wax over the top. It lasts better than most other things I've tried - and it's easy to use.
Buy it off them via ebay as it's cheaper than buying from their own website!

I really appreciate your replies, the think is I don't wanna remove the orginal factory spray sealer, beacuse its 90% great, with no welding bin done, due to the fact thw waxoil has bin on there since new. Hence the reason I wanted to use smoothrite or similar just on the few bits that are rusty, witch leaves me the decision do I clean all the wax off or re-car?!
Thanks again Charlie.

Speaking as someone who has done many escorts lately and infact still doing two at the minute arrrgghhh , I would personally remove it all as I guarantee there will be nasty parts lurking under what seems to be good looking std sealer ...... Have found best method is a heat gun and wallpaper scrapers of varying sizes ,along with a flapper wheel ,once most has been removed get some thinners and clean what's left off It's a horrible job tedious time consuming but very satisfying once done ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Then can rust treat any areas etch prime and underseal again Smallest of nicks in original underseal eg were its been jacked up before seems to let the moisture in and traps it and rusts it and acts as a trap ,whilst still looking ok from underneath
