Just been sorting out all my old stuff at my Mums place and I found my old Schumacher Cougar radio controlled car. Its in bits but must be a worthwhile restoration project ;D
I also found a Sunbeam Stiletto RC car bodyshell.
My teenage years are coming back to me.

Whatever you do don't start looking for bits on E-bay, it's all far too tempting.

I'm going to need a Mardave Mini Stock to put the Stiletto shell on. So will have to have a quick look at Ebay.

Hehe..I still have a Mardave chassis. I've got a Datsun 510 body to go on it but I've never got round to painting it. Must do it!

Ha ha - I still haven't grown up yet, I started racing R/C model cars when I was about 13, I'm now 27 and still doing it! ;D........ what a geek! One of my first cars was a Schumacher Top Cat which was the predecessor to the Couger - it had a laydown front shock absorber arrangement (similar to a single seater racing car) Which was awkward to set-up, so I grafted on a Mardave Meteor front end. Then Schumacher Brought out a more conventional front end themselves and called this car the Couger. I was later sponsored by Schumacher and reached the dizzy heights of 67th in the country (in my class - 2wd electric off road) I don't do it so seriously now but i'm now sponsored by this company [ftp]http://www.modeltech.co.uk/[/ftp] Its a great sport to get into especially for yougsters, as it teaches car set-up and other technical skills (which can be related to real cars) Budgeting (getting the most performance for your money) And self control (Keeping cool when it all goes wrong ;D) It can be Bloody expensive though!

RC racing was to expensive for me when I was a teenager. I didnt have transport either so getting to the club meets wasent going to happen.
I remember the Top Cat. My cougar had a pretty quick motor and I use to race it against my mates RC10 round the local park.
I learned loads about car setups suspension, diffs etc from RC cars.

Yeh - most of the lads which did well generally had the backing from enthusiastic parents who would fund their hobby and often act as pit crew - though which often led to arguments Me and a mate are thinking of running a 1/10 scale R/C car down Santa Pod, we rekon that a low teen pass is possible using a brushless electric motor and 12 cells - thats if we can maintain control of it down the full length of the 1/4 mile
