Hi all, I'm after a quick answer if possible?
I bought a set of discs for my ka and chose solid as its a 2001 model and that was on the listing, since checking (i know i should have done this before) i have found out they are vented.
can i still used the solid discs? and if so would i notice much difference between them and vented?
the KA will be seeing light sprint work and weekend country lane hoonage, i will be putting decent pads on and good brake fluid.
thanks for your help
Matt

I would imagine solid disc would be a lot thinner than a vented one, you don't want the caliper/piston maxing out to try and reach the disc. I'd get the correct one tbh.

my thoughts too. my car seems to be at a cross over point in production being an endura engined car but with duratec suspension and brake bits.
Looks like i will have to splash out for the correct discs.
I can send them back but I have to pay for postage and the postage will be about the same as they cost to buy lol, think ill stick em on ebay or gumtree. and just buy the vented discs

If your car should have vented discs, then that's what it must have. They are NOT interchangable unless to change the calipers aswell

I don't know about fords, so I'm only really saying this for the sake of interest, but on some stuff they are interchangeable, although for the cost of a pair of Ka discs, you really should stick with the vented stuff.
There's basically 3 ways they could have taken up the extra thickness of the vented discs, which will effect compatibility:
1) The same calipers, with thinner pads (as on a lot of old VW's), which would let you use the non-vented discs, but it'd be silly too anyway, as you might as well get vented ones and have better brakes. (Plus unless someone who knows Fords can confirm the caliper and piston part numbers to be the same on vented and non-vented cars, then even if this looks to be the case, I wouldn't advise it, as it may not be as simple as it looks, and anyway, it's a backwards step!) 2) The same caliper design, but wider. You'll need vented discs, but the same pads should fit. (Again, don't risk it unless someone who knows fords can confirm the pads are the same part number) 3) A different caliper. Nothing will be cross compatible.
(lots of disclaimer type sentences in there, but yeah, you get the idea, I want to inform, as how things work's interesting, but basically, do it by the book, they're brakes, and not worth risking anything over for the sake of a few quid.)

on some fords you can buy a spacer for the caliper but thats an upgrade from solid to vented what you trying to do is the opposite, just swap the discs over for the right ones

+1.
After having owned both, I would stick with the vented discs. Only Pug 106 solid brakes usurped them in their uselessness.
