Hi, just a quick question.
Whats an acceptableway of blocking off surplus coolant hoses? My polo now has a weber carb without an auto choke (old one was operated by water temp).
At the moment I'm using an m10 40mm long (roughly) bolt with a jubilee clip, not tested it yet but it look like it should seal.
I might put some ptfe tape round the threads of the bolt, but it there a better way of doing this? Is there anything out there made for the job?
Thanks

Was there only 1 hose going to the autochoke? On the pooberg of my old Mk2 there was a return hose as well and I just joined them up with a bit of copper pipe. Your method with the bolt will work, Pfte tape it like you said to prevent leakage down the threads.

If it's possible, I'd trace the hose back to where it starts from and block that up. One less hose in the engine bay that way.

I don't get it. Is there definitely only one hose going to the carb, and no return line?.... that coolant has to go somewhere.

There may have been a return hose originally but its not there anymore. The only reason the hose in question is there is because its part of a larger hose Thanks for the help fellas

Have you got a pic? I would try and trace the pipe back like waveman said. If it comes fro a tee piece replace that with a straight pipe.
Yep you do have a a pic!

Might be worth trying to find where the return went. I'm not sure about on polos but I think on Golfs it goes back into a metal pipe, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.
If you can't find the return I would try and replace the larger pipe with the tee with a straight one.

Its actually a 1.4 golf engine with polo manifold and a weber dtml, its more a case of making it work rathet than originality, which is kinda annoying. All done. I cut the extra pipe off nice and short, loads neater now. Thanks again

One of these would be the neatest way of doing it. Silicone hose end capOr if you're feeling fancy, you could drill/tap the hole to the nearest size up and screw a bolt directly into the manifold to block it.
