Brucetiger, a few posts up someone who posted "Macca" said he used to own E625 VKN Regarding the crank pulley, it uses the same block as the early MX5, "short nose crank" You can fit the large nose crank from a later mx5. Most failures caused by either the keyway been inserted wrong after the crank pulley has been removed, or the crank bolt not been torqued properly. And yes the gearbox can be a weak link. If you abuse it it will break. start upping the boost and it will kill 3rd gear. keep it around 200bhp, don't launch it and they are fine. The later 323 GTR also had a weak box, quite a few i know off fit the box from a celica GT4.

Is 'Kes' still part of the GTR scene? My mate Laura used to own this one: She had a grey 1300 GTR lookalike before that and another 1300, a red one, before that.

I think Kes is the bloke who owns the site 323gtx.co.uk. Bit quite on there now, obviously as very few of these cars left now i the UK. I remember Laura from that site and her car, i know it had a lot of work done on it, engine rebuilt etc. Here's her grey one you was on about, found it on that site.

That's it, yeah. We scrapped that one as the rear strut towers were shot. I know it wasn't much of a GTR repl, but it was closer than her red one lol. Aye, I helped with the engine and a load of other stuff on the GTR. I went with her to collect it from an importers near Felixstowe iirc.

A good friend of mine, owned one of these some years ago. He drove on the highway, heard a big "bump" under the car and the engine died... When he got on the side of the road he discovered that the entire end of the crankshaft, including beltpulley and all had snapped clean off. He found the piece on the road. The part had hit the underside of the car when it was leaving the engine at speed.
He had a bit of a fight with getting another engine as these cars are rare around here...

Yes ive heard of the crank pulley snapping off the end, i know of 3 cars where its happened. The early MX5 uses the same engine block so sourcing a bottom end is not really a problem, plenty of mx5s around (B6 engine) What a cracking little car, I'd love one of these for hillclimbing as at 1.6 turbo its perfect for A3 class. I know of a couple down this way, a white one with oz alloys and blue mirrors (fast but ragged) and a silver one with bright green stickers. I like the electronic centre diff lock function on them! Guy Just looked through my photos and my first one was reg E625 VKN, most had similar reg numbers as were registered in Kent. Going through my photobucket i came across this. I took this pic i would say about 8 years ago, it was parked up on someones drive for ages, in Gravesend, lower higham road. I did knock on the door but got the fellas mum, she said her son was storing it there, did leave my number incase he wanted to chat about it but ever heard from him and the car vanished.

Looking on the DVLA reg checker thingy its not been on the road since 2000. So my guess is either its tucked away stored somewhere or probably gone to car heaven. I remember it also having a front splitter on it, you cant really see it in that pic.

A decade update. I still have the car, was using it as a daily drive up until 2020. Cars been off the road since then. Paint went to **** word, rust was taking over. Around September i gave myself a kick up the rear end and started on it and hoped to be done before xmas, but the cold weather kicked in and put a stop on things. Its been pretty much 90% resprayed now, got front bumper and the little bits to go, wing mirrors, grill, side skirts etc. But hopefully, it will be back on the road within a few months, just waiting on the weather to warm up.
