Iknow its not retro but really need help and the vauxhall forums haven't be fruitfull, so hoping your guys can be.
My mk4 astra failed its mot as the co2 was 10.03.
Its an 'S' reg with the 1600cc 8v engine with single point injection
No engine managmet light on at all, and no stored codes.
When I looked at the car is was driving poorly with kangaro and rough idle. I cleaned and checked the following parts;
Egr valve was a bit dirty, cleaned and tested solenoid operation -all ok
Idle air valve was caked in in crud. Cleaned and checked operation. Winds in and out with ignition
Vac pipe was broken so replaced
Air filter housing cleaned.
Fuel injector removed and cleaned.
I have changed the map sensor and the pipe to it as it was crusty. No difference
I have checked the cts off the car by heating it up and colling it down, cold it reads 1.88k at 15 deg and runs smoothly down to .20k when at 90 deg.
Checked the cts on the car, when hot the volatge reads 2.20v and as it cools the reading rises to 3.30v
I replaced the plugs as they were due anyway and they where heavy in carbon deposits
Went to vaux dealer today and after establising I knew what I was on about and not a retard, he promptly told me he had no idea and neither did his mate(oh so helpful)
Looking at the injector when its running you can see fuel pooling on the throttle butterfly, looks more like a carb engine running then injection.
The garage replaced the cat approx 2 weeks ago. When in for it's retest it was down to 9% after all this.
I have checked the fault codes with paperclip test. The only code I get is p1405(egr) when ign on engine off. With engine running it just flashes on/off every second.
So know I'm scartching my head. replaced the lambda sensor as it was reading wrog but only made a slight difference.
It has a slightly tappet noise but runs lovely when up to temp and pulls well. So I can't imagine it's anything major like damaged valve seats or compression loss giving poor burn.
This car is trying my paitence. Are there any other inputs to the ecu that would affect the fuelling?
