Hi, this should hopefully be a very simple question to answer; do i need to remove the thin metal sheath around the original rubber bush, before fitting new polybushes? I removed the original from the leaf spring, went to put the new polybush in, and it doesnt quite fit. The original rubber was 44mm diameter, but the new polybushes are 48mm. This would either suggest the new ones are incorrectly sized, OR the 2mm thick sheath has to come out too, i'm just surprised if they do though, as they're extremely tightly fitted, even more so than the rubber bush. I don't know how i'd remove it either.

Yes, That looks like the outer sleeve from the old bush, it has to go, wd40 will help. a big hammer and a hefty drift. this can be helped by hammering a big old screwdriver into the gap if the spring loop, that should open up the eye slightly, using the screwdriver trick will also help with inserting the new bush

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Aye, as above that sleeve needs to come out. Slit it with a hacksaw and it'll release the pressure making it pretty much drop out.

I normally just hammer a chisel down the gap at the end of the spring loop, which makes it fold in on itself and comes out easy

try wedging a chistle in the slot of the spring i may just open it enough to get the old sleeve out, i would have thought you would get a new sleeve with the new bushes though but at the sizes you have shown there don't look to be enough room. Funny enough i just done a simular job on an engine mount today, in the end i had to take it to a bus/coach workshop near me and use thier 30/40ton press to get it in and even then it was sooooo tight the press was at its maximum and thats with heating the outer up and freezing the inner

Poly bushes (except certain applications on some cars) tend to not come with a sleeve where a factory item may have done.
