When you do a search for a car status on DVLA it sometimes shows date of liability and unlicensed. I presume in most cases the car has been scrapped ? I thought if a car was taken to a scrappers they had to send in the documents to say it was scrapped? Does it mean then that sometimes the car may still be around and not scrapped but just stored ? hope this makes sense !!!

I've got vehicles that are "unlicenced". Basically not on the road when SORN introduced so I'd assume any car you have found has been off the road for a long time or DVLA not informed scrapped.

You are correct but it is also possible that either the owner just hasn't declared SORN or the DVLA have cocked up, one of their computer back up systems crashed last year and resulted in the lose of details of a lot of the SORN cars so they are now showing as unlicensed and the owner receiving curse word letter and threats for not declaring SORN, the DVLA however will not admit that this was their fault.

Unlisencd is a status where the vehicle has not been scrapped or is known still to exist but it's exact status is unkown. My Matchless is unlisenced, even though it is on the system. Before I put it on the road I will have to apply to get it lisenced as a historic vehicle.

I guess it means exactely what it says . The vehicle is just not licensed and on the road and the rest is speculation , whether its sorned , not sorned scrapped etc.
