Dear fellow petrol sniffers
I'm in the process of sorting out my wife's Mk6 escort cabriolet, and she would like a nice burbly throaty sounding exhaust.
I've found a company called Sportex that make them, but my question is: Do I need to replace the full exhaust system, or just the back box to make it burble.?
Has anyone used Sportex? are there any other makers? (Piper don't do them for the cabriolet).
Cheers
Nigel

It depends on how loud you want it. You can stick a cherry bomb on it. You can have a cat back system with no middle box etc. I had a cherrybomb-type backbox on my old mk2 metro and it was loud as fook.

In my yoof most of my mates would take the back box of their cars (because it was easy) and they ended up sounding boomy and very droney, i used to leave the back box on and take out the centre box, sounds much better, gets raspy and will pop back on the over run on most cars.

Turbocharge it, that should add a burble to it ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . I have used Sportex (well, got cars with them as well) with varying results. They seem to rust swiftly very much like the Ashley exhausts of old, and the fitment of them was dubious (sometimes they would fit OK, other times not to well). It did used to burble on a couple of cars though (a Ka with their box did, but the back box is the only silencer on those cars, nothing like the Escort. Janspeed may do the job and fit well. How much do you wish to spend? Whilst I could recommend a Sportex for its burbling aspects on one car, it may simply be boomy as hell on an Escort MkVI. You may end up going to a custom place but that may far in excess of what you wish to spend ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) .

I have a nice back box I removed from my mk6 before I scrapped it sitting in my garage. Retrofits to the original pipe work so no bodging to fit it. I think it's Magnex but not certain. Was nowhere near too loud and deep enough to keep you smiling.
Pm me if you want it.

There's usually a system or two to choose from on the classified section of "Escort Evolution" forums... ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Back when I used to do a bit of writing on Fords the Magnex was a good choice. It was well made and sounded nice. Unlike a lot of the other ones around it actually fitted too...

^^. I have had it about 8yrs now and when ever I get an escort with standard exhaust I just remove back box and fit this until I'm done with the car. But now I'm stocking with my mk4 for the next 40yrs so I won't be needing it anymore.

I've got a 2nd hand stainless steel Magnex backbox on my Golf. The standard box was blowing so I managed to get hold of it off a lad in Dudley who was breaking his old Golf. The rest of the system is standard and it has a nice, low note now. I didn't want anything too loud as my Metro was ridiculous (and funny)

Regarding brackets they changed sides late 97 if I remember correctly, had this problem when I tried to fit the backbox off of my previous escort to the new one, both R-reg, different hangers, ended up just bodging it with bigger rubbers, cable ties etc, wasfine but ideally weld another bracket on
