Hi Guys
I`ve recently had my retro folding bicycle frame powder coated but its messed up the folding mechanism and is flaking off in other places its just to thick everywhere,
So i`d like to remove it all and spray it again myself
Does anyone have any tips for removing powder coat?
Cheers Adrian

You need some decent paint stripper. Not the cheap stuff but the £10 a litre methylene chloride type used mainly now for aircraft paint. You might have trouble sourcing. I had similar problem removing original paint off the alloy panels of a Land Rover rear tub and wasted money on all sorts of stripper before a paint supplier sold me something suitable. With powder coated bull bars flaking paint was a problem when it had been damaged and water got underneath. People tried all sorts of things and a one method was chuck the bull bar into a bonfire or BBQ so the coating burn off so you could try a blow lamp or hot air paint stripper.

Its a real sod to get off, have resorted to chucking more sturdy objects in a fire before, maybe a blowlamp?

Take it to a blasters to get it stripped, it should only cost about £30-50 including priming.

most of these blasting companys have a vat of trike which strips paint but doesnt damage the metalwork.

Hi Guys
My Dad stripped all the powdercoat from my frame with a Stanley blade and some oldschool full strength paint stripper (it took him 2 days and he says never again)
Its now going to be soda blasted for final cleaning before i prime it then topcoat it
Cheers Adrian
