Just come across one of these in the local area. 1500 engine and an auto.
Any common weakspots? Things to look for. There is a dearth of info on google unless I am looking in the wrong places...

I had a mate who was running one of those who was very happy with it except he said the mpg was disappointing. A quick Google didn't produce any other similar gripes though so it might just be his car (or his driving style).

Good reliable cars, just watch for rust in the rear arches and the rear spring/shock trumpets, they tend to rot out and collapse. good engine and box fun to drive.

well I went and looked at it.... Its in pretty good nick. better than average for 103k However, it needs a full service, brake fluids and brake linings. Need new tyres all round to make me happy. Suspension is a bit 'worn' but 'will do'. Petrol release is broken. Can you get these? also strange electrical problem where only radio or internal clock can go on a fuse else it blows front edge of sunroof is crusty and the chassis rails around the rear sub frame mmounts is just starting to show rust. Has had a small plate put on the rear of both sills. So just starting to have the classic places go that 120y mentioned. Engine and box sound sweet. Engine oil on top of the gearbox? He says it is not using any hhhhmmmmm! All in all a good runner/project. Would look very nice on some nice wheels. I want to offer him circa £500 but he wants around the £750 and has repeatedly said will not drop. It is a very hard car to value so I would welcome some opinions on value of a 88 gsx saloon of this era......

no help on value but my wife loved hers when she was younger - used to regularly do hundreds of mile road trips and despite not doing any servicing it never gave her trouble. she is not one for nostalgia but does still remember it fondly

750 sounds a tad overpriced considering needing work and auto. they come up on ebay occasionally. saloons are however harder to come by
inspiration wise you only need look at this years retro rides gatheirng. a gold saloon on slotmags and last year my slammed estate version on 13x7 superlights. shape wise from about 86 they came in that shape untill 90. early ones have square headlights, facelifted ones have a corner cut on headlights.. "mostly" the only visual difference.
