Any ideas what car would fit my MK2 Cortina to convert it to Rack and pinion from steering box? Was thinking MK2 escort but it is too wide for the cross member?
I thought about grafting the steering rack onto the cortina cross member but I have a problem with the steering column.
Just getting into a bloody pickel.
BUM
Cheers Chris

Cant you use capri stuff by removing the mounts & grafting your cortina ones on there. I presume you will use adjustable tca's etc to sort the geometry. My mate had a mk2 with a rack conversion & I'm pretty sure they used this method.
If youve got very deep pockets oldford autos do a conversion kit.....

Buying a BMW or a Bentley & looking cool is easy, but the credit doesn't go to you.Taking an unloved car that cost £500 & making it good enough to get photos in magazines or stand out alongside cars that cost one hundred times more is a skill reserved for us loonies!

I might be inclined to say don't bother because it's a lot of expense and bother for not a lot of gain when by nipping up the box and replacing all the steering joints will make the steering like new again.
For a rack I'd go a complete Escort or Capri front clip, struts and column. Just graft the whole lot on being sure to get the wheelbase in the right place and the height of the antirollbar in the right place. You also have to think about the distance between the strut tops if you go this route or you'll lose your geometry.
